i did a little peering so far we have known to us. that either the whole building is in lock-down(unconfirmed) reports of other users pulling/preparing their equipment on floors below or above.(confirmed by few users)
Its a 2 alarm blaze meaning... 5 pumpers, 2 aerials, 1 squad, 1 hazardous materials truck, 1 air supply vehicle, 1 incident command vehicle

| the 9th floor doesn't really exist, there's a penthouse with some HVAC and genny stuff, there's no datacenter space there. The other half is open-air rooftop.
Nobody is getting in the building... there's a lot of people on the street trying to reconfig via blackberry and iPhone. -- »ServerNorth.net »Mike.Geiger.ca »LHNet.ca »ThePackets.net |

| All the SSH apps for the iPhone cost money, but I did mess around with one on a friend's iPhone... Despite a good 3G signal, and the server being only 30ms away, it was a painfully slow experience to the extent of almost not working. Was this an atypical experience? |

| reply to MikeGeiger Trying from Montreal. Can't get into TekSavvy since this started around 2:30am, and can't log with a Bell Sympatico either (by fluke, after maybe two dozen tries, it finally did get on and how I'm typing this now).
I can log into the test@test account, but authentication is unusually slow, or sometimes just fails.
Definitely some kind of major outage. Hope I can get back on in some capacity by tomorrow. Don't have any backup, other than a Bell account. |

This is just the kick in the ass I needed to set up my emergency dial-up account on this machine. Makes my crappy 2.5Mbit connection seem fast.
And thanks to whoever set up this forum, I'd surely still be rebooting everything in the house other wise.
Good luck guys, hopefully nobody gut hurt and damage is minimal. B) |

| reply to MikeGeiger Luckily I'm in range of UofT wireless. I had to use my parent's Bell login for a bit to get the WEP password that I didn't have set up anymore though.
Anyone know if Bell will get mad about borrowing logins? Or they don't care because you need a line and usage is tracked anyways? |

| said by xxgg :Test@test does connect. Just an FYI for the future. Yes test@test will work. test@test only goes as far back as the local BAS. It's a local C/O level test. It does not even come close to making it to 151 front street. -- R.I.P Mom. |

Woke up, had no connection, and immediately loaded twitter on my Android phone. I saw Rocky's tweet about the fire. Thank God for the internet... wait. |

1 edit | reply to MikeGeiger Well, we're up and running on redundant bandwidth for right now (thanks to my BlackBerry, which spent most of the early morning hours trying to wake me up with ping status and network monitoring warning messages). It's sounding like there wasn't any extensive damage to any equipment, so hopefully we'll see TekSavvy back up and running shortly.
Early morning, mostly off-topic rambling: about ten years ago, I worked for a small telecom company in West Virginia. Their data center was, for whatever reason, located below ground level. Naturally, that "once in a hundred years" event came... A water main burst and flooded much of downtown Charleston, including the data center. Taught me, early on, the importance of a good disaster recovery plan...
Let us in the TSI community know where to send the donations for coffee... Tim ought to deliver.
