Great attempt at scaremongering. There are bugs, and they will therefore be fixed. Everybody needs to stay calm, and stay sharp, and just install the latest version which will be out soon, no doubt. |

| reply to matunga You know good testers are really hard to find, and 99.9999% of so beta testers aren't testers at all just people who want the new version for purely the sake of 'new'. So I expect any software release to have bugs and frankly more then a developer would want based on the 'poor' testing users do. I would expect the developers are rather disappointed by some of these bugs and why they weren't brought to their attention before release, but so is the nature of the development game and I'm sure they will address them and wonder how they can get better testing next time.

said by PX Eliezer :said by Matt :Microsoft offers free phone support for IE. Where is the number to call Mozilla for free support? Microsoft's support is limited: "Support for Internet Explorer 8 installation, set-up and usage is available via the phone based on your locale. Customers must be running Windows XP or Windows Vista in a non-domain environment. Free phone support for Internet Explorer 8 is limited to installation, set-up and usage only. Advanced issues are not supported. Advanced issues include problems that are associated with software and hardware development, network connectivity, server-based technologies, and business-critical systems."
When needed, I have received as good, if not better, response from the Mozilla support forums (on Usenet as well as their web forum) as from Microsoft. That's my status as an MVP (mine in Windows Networking originally) not with standing. I have seen some other MVPs with a similar attitude.
The fine print expressed above just exemplifies the Microsoft attitude, toward their support. And we pay for Microsoft products, Mozilla makes theirs completely free. -- Cheers, Chuck MS-MVP 2005-2009 [Windows - Desktop Experience] Nitecruzr Dot Net |

1 edit | reply to matunga I went back to Chrome for both of my computers, running very fast through webpages and start-up. Though I left 3.5 on my Windows 7 laptop where for some strange reason it's running remarkably well in terms of start-up and browsing compared to my XP computers which topple it in power.
If I was able to get similar results on both of my machines, I would throw 3.5 right back in the game. I like Chrome a lot for its performance, but it lacks greatly in customization and stability(3-5 crashes daily). -- I love fish sticks. I love putting fish sticks in my mouth. |

Considering Firefox is a free product it is not unusual not not offer telephone support. Opera does not offer phone support either according to their web site.
As there are other ways to obtain support I do not see a problem.

No this is just how MoFo does things. It is called getting a build out to the users and then bug hunting and fixing on the go.
Does not bother me in the slightest if there are bugs in v3.5 because I know MoFo is working on them.
Would you rather have Fx be treated like an OS and wait a year or more between releases then have to wait for patches and a service pack to fix those bugs?
I do not see the big deal here it is just how MoFo handles Fx. Each company approaches bugs differently. -- "Facts not FUD!" |

| reply to PX Eliezer said by PX Eliezer :As for Mozilla support, why would anyone need phone support for Firefox or Thunderbird? I can't conceive of such a circumstance, except perhaps in rare situations. I say this seriously, not in any sarcastic way. I'm just trying to illustrate that Microsoft offers more support options and avenues than Mozilla. A lot of people don't realize that Microsoft offers free phone support, excellent newsgroups and forums, and has a very good user community of knowledgeable people (just pop-in the Microsoft or Enterprise Admins forums on this site) out there.
And you're right, Google is an excellent source of information to fix a Microsoft problem. The user community has always resolved any issue that I can't, so when I turn to Google I don't have a hard time finding an answer.
Mozilla may be the exception, but I've found FOSS support to be hit or miss. Mainly miss. Perhaps the fact that the Mozilla foundation funds development is why their support is superior to other FOSS projects? |
