Re: Its the Traffic Management Super Bowl!

Day 1

Yahoo USA has this under Yahoo Canadian Tech News :

»ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/0907···_traffic

May be same as CP story, but it's getting around....

Yeah, but it's copy and paste from the Canadian Press. They don't care or they do not want to.
If you think so then separate CDN press from actual "paper reporting".

Use the list, and others reports coming out, and break it up as you see it.

If its all the same thing in every media, then make a header called "all the same" and copy/paste the URLS that are the same in that header.

Media control of this is just as important.

BTW:
So far I noticed nothing at all from Quebecor Media (ie. Videotron) on any of this.

Figured I'd share the collection of Mainstream Media releases on the hearings:

If you find more "Mainstream media" reports add to the list by the day it represents.

Curious how the individual "media" outlets will portray all this on a day by day basis.

I don't like that mention of regulating peering though.
Part of the "latency" problems IS Bell's peering (throttle aside).

I don't like that mention of regulating peering though. The idea is that it should work by itself because it is advantageous for everyone. Bell are just d-bags, t'is all.

yeah no kidding. I'm loving this. The idea of advertising their throttled speed, I thought of when I bitched about rogers.

I don't think they are deploying fttn in Orangeville. A new subdivision just went in vary close to my place and it looks like they ran standard equipment to some brown long box, when I'm out later today, I will take a pic of it. If I remember to bring my camera.
There really isn't any reason for a voice+DSL card to look any different from a plain DSL-only card: DSLAMs sport DSPs with thousands of times more processing power than what is required to apply the 30+ years old DTMF and voice filtering/compression algorithms needed by PSTN.

Since the DSLAM already has code to interface with the backplane using Ethernet frames, adding POTS-over-Ethernet capability to a DSLAM requires very little (if any) extra hardware and integration some well-documented ancient algorithms to the firmware... the coding effort is nearly trivial, definitely well below the cost of having separate cards for voice and data.

All new deployments would be FTTN based. That brown box is likely a RDSLAM or stinger.

That box is around 4.5 km from the CO in Orangeville.

They might run wires back to the CO to use as a large UPS.

151 Front Street is basically the telecommunications hub for ontario. It has nothing to do with Bell's own network other than they have space there, and terminate a lot of fibre there just like many other providers.

Like I said I'm not sure.

I thought 151 front was a sort of a major fibre hub for peering outside of Canada.

But like I said I'm not sure.

here is another reason why we need more CO's.
COs are artifacts of the past where line-cards were far too large (over a square foot per line) and power-hungry to be deployed in the field, making stringing kilometers of copper the only way to get people phone services.

In new developments where Bell deploys FTTN gear, I would be really surprised if Bell still bothered to run copper loops all the way to the CO instead of completely terminating the line (DSL+voice) on a multi-service line card in the FTTN remote. With all the line electronics out in the field, a FTTN-era CO only needs a few racks worth of gear to connect all the local FTTN nodes to the WAN mesh.
