Wow, they explicitly asked if ISP-determined traffic shaping being used in Canada, and he dodged the question.
¨but will not address the issue , of congestion ¨

Well vendors often offer different features in their products. It would have been better if the actual vendor that Bell uses showed up to present.

I think the bigger issue is that Juniper doesn't want to talk negatively about the ways their product could be used by ISPs.

It's like asking a gun manufacturer if their product could be used to kill people. They'd say "depends on the way the product is implemented"

I know, they backed away from the serious questions. They do not want to get involved and say the wrong things when it comes to that stuff, just like to show what could be possible from a network engineer standpoint.

Boo ya! The questioner is reasserting that Junipers answers should be directly addressed to the real world discrimination issue, rather than "theoretical solutions"

lol now he's saying they're not interested in "profiling subscribers" but the ISPs are! And I know some ISPs are certainly using DPI that way.

And just as it seems like they're getting on track, they cut for a break and let Juniper go.

I must say that it seems like the CRTC has good questions, but they are kinda getting the run around on the answers. They need to be a little more aggressive in getting real answers to existing issues.

Juniper and Sandvine weren't exactly dishonest in their answers, but they basically refused to talk openly about the ways the ISPs actually use their product. Instead they stayed in 'theoretical land' where everything is rosey, and the consumer has all the power.

Hey, rather telling how it's /these/ characters who comprise the closing commentators.

Someone needs to smack the CRTC with the regulatory-capture/regular-whore rubber hose.
+1 !!!

"The responsibility is on ISPs to explain how traffic management and DPI do not violate common carriage rules. It should not be up to the consumer to beg for fair treatment."

The consumer panel's presentation is driving me nuts. DEMONSTRATE SOME SHOWMANSHIP FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! The presentation is making me fall asleep! Why does EVERY presentation in front of the CRTC has to be so incredibly boring?

Streamed here: »www.crtc.gc.ca/streaming/stream1-floor.htm

Don't know if it's being captured.

I'm at work too. But I am not working. My productivity this week is going to be very low.
