1 edit | Does lowering of my PPoE MTU create Power outage for my ISP?
Intro
• Hi I'm a gamer and I want to achieve better ping times when I play Battlefield 2 online.
»Tweaking FAQ »Ping: Can it be lowered/adjusted?
Lowering ping by adjusting RWIN is simply an urban legend and not true, as RWIN and ping use two totally different protocols.
If you lower MTU, the latency of your packets should improve, though your download speed will decrease as well. Some gamers prefer this course of action, though.
. . . • Here is my Tweak Tester Results before I did anything to Windows XP if that is of any help to you guys.
»/tweakr/block:···a=normal . . . What I did
When I changed the MaxMTU box to 1492 with Dr.TCP my connection to the ISP disappeared. I tried to erase everything I did in Dr.TCP to make everything go back to default but no connection to my ISP. »Tweaking FAQ »DRTCP: How do I use it and what are all these settings? . . . Question 1
• Is this normal when you play with MTU tweaking? • Can playing around with MTU tweaking create Power outage for my ISP?
I also tried to dualboot into my Linux partition on the same Windows XP machine but no connection. And I also tried to surf the Internet with another PC in our home network but it too lost ISP connection. . . . Question 2
The reason I bring this up is because there was a lightning storm 2 days ago that shutdown Internet in my entire neigborhood.
• So I was wondering it that has to do with things or if I shutdown the ISP connection myself when I played with Dr.TCP?
Maybe my ISP has a warning trigger that shutdown accounts when people messes with their ADSL lines? |
