1 edit | Signing Up to Teksavvy
I was going through the forums and looking at what modems to get and I was just thinking of getting the 2wire modem that everyone is talking about for $20. Right now I have 2wire 2701hg-g with sympatico and wanting to cancel it and switch to teksavvy.
Some of my questions are, if I order teksavvy but my sympatico doesn't expire till the end of the month can I still use teksavvY or do I have to wait?
I managed to get the line stats from the modem:
twdsm.attenuation_ds = 10.35; % Only calculated during training twdsm.attenuation_us = 3.00; % Only calculated during training twdsm.margin_ds = 31.00; twdsm.margin_us = 24.00; % Only calculated during training
and looking around i guess that its good? should i be able to get good speeds?
My last question is, will choosing the modem make any difference to the line stats or should i just stick with the 2wire ADSL or do I need to get a ADSL2 modem?
Also I have the WRT54G Version 2. Do I need to upgrade the router for MLPPP or this one is ok? |

| You will get the same/similar speeds with Teksavvy that you do with bell for the most part.
The 2wire modems handle marginal or crappy lines somewhat better than the speedstreams. If you have a solid line it won't make any difference.
MLPPP/Tomato will run just fine on your router. -- Broadline Networks Inc. |

| The premium package (200G limit) will give you a better response due to the nature of ramp used than the unlimited.
The line looks solid, but you likely don't know if you're on a remote or not. If you are on a remote, there's a possibility you may get knocked back to the CO. At which point ... ... ... oops.
With line stats like that, it would be highly unlikely you'd go on interleave - UNLESS - see above.
The 2-wire modems are very good for marginal lines. Otherwise, any modem will do. The ST5x6 & HG27xx modems or their derivatives seem to be the choice. That's been discussed ad nauseum in this forum.
ADSL2 - You can only be "guaranteed UP TO" 5M with TSI at present. SO for now, any modem will work. If you're using Bell's modem right now, Bell will very likely want it back when you leave their fold. When ADSL2? ??????????? Your guess. |
