 [BC] Intermittent connection dropping

Hello!

I have noticed in the past week several instances of my internet connection droppping out. I have Shaw Extreme and a Motorola Surfboard SB5101 modem. I've had internet connection in my home for over 10 years now, with this modem being about two years old.

All connection to the modem will be lost (all LEDs will be out except for the power), and then it would reconnect within a few minutes on its own. This can happen several times in a couple hour session, and started happening in the last week.

I have powered off the modem for a couple days while I was out of town, and powered on, with the same result.

I called Shaw, and they said everything looks good, and have arranged to send a technician next week.

I have run Speedtest from Shaw with acceptable results, and I have run the line monitoring test from here with excellent results.

Any ideas why the modem would be dropping signal?
Thx,

Does your internet drop out while you're actively using it, or just when left at a mostly idle state?

If your connection is idle, it could just be load balancing, causing it to cycle as it connects from one network upstream interface, to another. If it's happening while you're actively using it, then it's something more important and a service tech would be required.

Modem flapping. Get someone to actually look at your modem logs.

Probably a bad splitter or some other line condition.

Hi. It happens when idle or while actively using the internet.

Thanks for the input Anon, and Pfak

I'll monitor the connection until the tech checks it out.
