Interleaved mode causing high pings?

I'm at a family member's home who has the 1536/384 AT&T DSL package and noticed that their pings were rather high as compared to my cable internet service.

Upon looking through the web interface of their Motorola 2210 modem I saw a blurb about the line type being interleaved:

100 DSL Line Type interleaved
101 DSL Line Interleaved Depth 16

I remember back to my DSL days and having my provider (then Ameritech) switch my line to fast path in order to improve latency.

Is this something I can request of AT&T for this line?

Should I post in the AT&T direct forum on their behalf? If so, what information would I need regarding their account?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Here's an example of a traceroute to 4.2.2.2 with no other internet traffic being generated:

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>tracert -d 4.2.2.2

Tracing route to 4.2.2.2 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.254
2 47 ms 49 ms 50 ms 99.36.231.254
3 47 ms 48 ms 48 ms 76.205.15.1
4 49 ms 49 ms 48 ms 151.164.43.59
5 57 ms 56 ms 57 ms 151.164.39.96
6 57 ms 56 ms 57 ms 4.68.110.197
7 72 ms 72 ms 71 ms 4.68.101.98
8 57 ms 57 ms 56 ms 4.2.2.2

Trace complete.

Here are some more line stats from the web interface:
