1 edit | Embarq getting 25Mbps ADSL in my area soon
I was talking to an Embarq tech that was setting up a 10Mbps DSL connection for our new business location. I asked him when Embarq was going to get anything faster, and he said they were currently beta testing 25Mbps DSL in my area.
I meant to ask him how/if I could be a part of the beta test, but didn't get around to it before he left.
I'm sure if I call their customer service they won't have a clue about it, and I have no idea how to find this tech again.
Anyway, anyone here know about this, or how to become a part of their 25 Mbps beta?
I'm pretty sure unless the price is outrageous that I'd be upgrading to the 25Mbps package when it's available, but if I could get on it sooner, I'd love to.
Edit: I'm in the Fayetteville NC area.

| Last I heard the beta test for VDSL was in Nevada, not NC. You did say ADSL but ADSL2+ only goes up to 24mbps, so you probably meant VDSL. If there is a trial in your area, the field techs are the ones that will have the most knowledge on it, so grab a field tech and ask them. Or Ask Embarq_Joey, he might be able to find out and see if he can get you thrown into it.
Usually with those types of trials, they do it in a specific neighborhood, so it is all in the same area.
I'd love to get some good speeds too... my NID tested at 18mbps but they don't offer it |

| reply to dibbb I would love to see an upgrade like that in the future. For now, I would be satisfied if Embarq could just provide the 5 meg service I am supposed to get. Thanks to Embarq's failure to provide adequate capacity for our area, they cannot consistently support contract service levels. Speeds in this part of the country (East Texas) are often less than 200K. Embarq says it is strictly a capacity problem but they are working on it - no good estimate on a fix though. I wish you luck with your 10meg connection - I will be envious if it works for you. |

| said by chazz13 : I wish you luck with your 10meg connection - I will be envious if it works for you. I've had 10Mbps DSL in our other location since Feb 2008, and it honestly works great. I test the speeds every few months, they're always high, and the "real world" download speeds are great too.
I am hoping this 25Mbps comes soon and is just as reliable. -- Certified Medisoft reseller. |

| reply to rabeatz I'm honestly not sure if it's "ADSL" or "VDSL". I'm pretty sure my 10Mbps connection is ADSL now though.
The tech said 25Mbps, maybe it's just 24Mbps and they say "25" because it's an "easier" number for people to think of...
Or maybe it really is 25Mbps and it's VDSL, whichever would be fine with me.
I'll shoot that Embarq_Joey a PM to see what he can do maybe.
Thanks. -- Certified Medisoft reseller. |

| reply to dibbb assuming it's not VDSL or VDSL2, then the max speed would be 24 megabits per second, on a single line.
If it is VDSL, I hope it's not regular VDSL, as it truly is horrendous. VDSL2 has much higher speeds, and at a distance equals ADSL2+ in performance...VDSL just drops off quickly and turns useless for everyone after a certain point...VDSL2 doesn't do that.
in any event, I'll be looking forward to new speeds....but only if the upload has increased--if they have a 20 meg down package that still has 896k up, it's not really worth it, to me, IMHO. |

| I don't know about Fayetteville, but I was talking to one of the techs in Jefferson City MO where they are doing the IPTV trial, that is using a bonded pair of ADSL2+ -- DSLr Mafia Member. |
