djrobx posted : My guess is they'll get that out in 3.1 also. If not, AT&T may be able to block it on their end. It probably requires that the message be crafted in a very specific way, and I doubt AT&T will want a text-virus clogging up their network.
--
AT&T U-Hearse
Your funeral.
djrobx posted : Don't worry about bricking your phone. It goes into a failsafe upgrade mode if the firmware gets goofed up. It's rare that a firmware update goes south. What seems to be more common is the phone's settings don't transfer correctly and you end up with crashing email apps or short battery life, especially if its a major update. That's happened to me when going from 1.x to 2.0, and 2.x to 3.0.

Apple probably can't get 3.1 out fast enough. 3.0 is gold for hackers. You can enable tethering by just browsing to a website, jailbreak is easy, and even the baseband is unlockable!
--
AT&T U-Hearse
Your funeral.
TearAbite posted : well since the final has not yet been released, it's going to be hard to give particulars..

but in general, my upgrades have gone very fast (a few minutes, perhaps).. Someone will always complain of a brick after any upgrade, but i think the incidence is low.. AFAIK iTunes always does a backup before it applies an update/upgrade..
Your phone (apps, settings, etc) will be exactly the same after the update as it was before the update..
