DSL reports speed test much slower than RoadRunner Zip 04578

Hello,

When I run Road Runners speed test, I get results like 16M/1M for my cable connection advertised as 15M/1M with turbo boost.

However, if I run the speed tests from dslreports, I consistently get much slower download speeds more like 7M/1M.

Should I believe Road Runners own test or is something fishy going on here?

Thanks.

-William

Try Speakeasy.net and see how it compares.

For what it's worth, I think that speed tests have some use, but mainly I care about how fast websites display and how fast downloads of software go. Those things don't seem to have a lot to do with speed test results.

Same here.
Definitely there is something 'fishy' or technologically biased somewhere along the line.

I only trust RR speed test servers or

Nothing fishy at all. When you run a speed test on your local division site, you are staying inside the Roadrunner network and as such aren't seeing any (great) distance/peering/slowdown issues you might encounter once you leave your locality.

To further, this would show that you are capable of receiving max speeds.

I don't trust flash-based speedtests anymore at all. I consistently get wildly inflated results from them. (on downstream, at least)

»testmy.net/ is the one I prefer.

I find that flash tests give me slower speeds than javascript. Even using flash with IE8 doesn't seem to make that much difference. This is true for flash here at dslreports or at speedtest.net. OTOH, the java app at dslreports gives fairly consistent results. Your link to testmy.net also gives results in the same range as the java tests here at dslreports, at least for me.
