What I did on my summer vacation

What I did on my summer vacation...

I was shanghi'd.
I expected a nice week of being home alone, and medicating the cats and treading my way to work making the money, while my wife and children were off with the Mom-inlaw at Lake Mojave on a houseboat. Some times that is what happens when you can't afford 3 vacations because the Mom-inlaw had a bucket list, now just a list of stuff she just wants to do and has paid for.
So I was told 2 weeks before, I have to go, and we will take the financial hit "because it would really not be good to have 1 woman just out of surgery, my wife and 2 kids out by themselves on the lake, what if something happened." Ok, going to Lake Mojave sounds like a lot more fun anyway and I will be the captain of the houseboat.

...and I will be the captain of the houseboat, and the helmsman, porter, mechanic, security, and well you get the idea.

But that really was the worst of it. I had a great time. The houseboat had a waterslide, which my son was always using. The lake and the coves we moored in were extremely clear. You could see 15 feet down easily, and the fish swimming around in the coves. And it was warm.
The cove we seemed to stay in was the Fire Mountain cove. With a school of small Rock Bass that seemed to come out when we were in the water and swam at our feet if we stayed still for more than a minute.

We fished from the boat and could not catch a thing. I was told they poisoned the lake a couple of weeks ago to kill Zebra Muscles and killed a lot of fish as well.

Came back on Sunday and rested.

Now next Saturday, it is San Juan Capistrano, where I will be staying at a hotel on the beach, only to go to work from there, which, I hope, will take an hour off of my drive a day. That will be a vacation.

Forum rules clearly state ...and I quote...:
"...descriptive posting of ones vacation/outing/get-a-way/fling/nooner/affair, or any other such fun that occurs away from the immediate geographic area must be accompanied by pictures or other images of said excursion."

sometimes posting quotes in my sig works sometimes it doesn't.

I have to say, I do have a pretty great life at the moment. Sometimes it is good and sometimes it is rough.
for the moment I am going to enjoy while I can before the tough times are back again.

I will have pics up later, after my wife and mom-inlaw pull them from the cameras.

When did SJC get beachfront property?

That's my home turf down there, so if you need any restaurant suggestions... axe me. (as dogma would say)

You can accuse me of being overly possessive of my vehicles, but I don't ascribe gender to them - or worse, name them.

Ahh, but only for the shorties, MH at 13 feet won't get through the woods. Sorry...

Endless supply of mosquitoes and bear are free. Nothing like lifting an elk rack and skull (winter kill) into a tree to attract the bears

Well, at least you didn't have to far to take a dump....And I guess flood season was over...That would be one hell of a wake up call.

couple of more.
The story on the fire, my daughter's job was to look for dead wood for the fire, she found it, in a waterlogged tree, still rooted, but dead. This tree pulled up easily, and I had to drag it half a mile to get it back to the beach so we could rip it appart, as I did not have an axe or saw, for the fire. That wood never burned of course, fortunately I had some other wood I put in the center so we still had a fire.

Great pics! Thanks for sharing.

What a perfect spot for a nap. Was the beverage mired in the mud floor, or did you have it affixed to something stationary...

at that time, it was filled with lake water, the original contents already consumed, and I did not want the bottle to float away. We had bought some side tables that attached to the chairs.
