| what Bank should I use now?
years ago I had most of my liquid assets here: »www.citigold.info/content.asp?cm···=0&ln=en
I liked that it combined my checking, savings, investments, online bill paying, credit cards, all in one monthly statement, with complete online access, and local branch ATM and teller use.
Unfortunately, dealing with CitiBank makes me nervous since the economic meltdown hit them hard. Their minimum balance requirements keep rising, and their annual fee is like $600 a year for this account, for basically doing nothing special for me.
Say I have $30,000 handy, and a mid'700 credit rating. I want to put $25,000 into a stock with margin credit availability. the other $5,000 I'll leave in checking for regular bills and credit card payments.
can anyone suggest a low fee bank account that unifies all my needs into a monthly PRINTED statement, as well as having full online access to my account, and local branch ATM's here in NYC? most banks have branches in Forest Hills, so I should be OK getting to an ATM.
I was considering JP Morgan - Chase Manhattan, but they keep wanting to sell me their investment services, not just a unified trading/check/credit/atm/savings account.
Please provide names and/or links to what you can suggest. I want to bankrate.com, but I can't figure that sight out. |

I have Chase. No monthly fee as long as I have direct deposit but no cancelled checks are returned to me. Everything is online which I access with Quicken. I no longer get a paper statement... though maybe that was optional. |

| If you have what you say you have handy go with Chase don't get their free but their Premium account
I have 7 accounts with chase normally the fee is 25 for each but it's all free because of the 15k plus balance in all.
I never had any trouble with them.
they will unify everything into 1 statement they do it for me but I don't have an investment account with them though so that may be different. -- Email/MSN: Michael at hardwaregeeks.comAIM: MikeR35292 |

4 edits | reply to Packeteers OK, I Think i figured it out with Chase... »https://www.chase.com/ccp/index.jsp?pg_n···packages basically, they have 2 accounts in my area of interest.
>$5,000 Better Banking >$15,000 Premier Checking
both unify all your activity under one money market account with both a paper statement and online browswer access.
the differences between the two are. free 3x5 saftey deposit box more checks styles to choose 4 free non-chase ATM use per Month. earned interest on checking
but I'll probably go with Premier, even though I don't need that. |

1 edit | reply to Packeteers during economic crisis many are changing banks. this is not "financial advise" rather which high NYC service area bank to choose.
If anyone can suggest a bank other than citi or chase, please feel free to chime in.

| You might want to check into Fidelity Investments. Their MySmart cash account functions as a checking account and although they don't have atms, they reimburse any atm charges that you might incur. We've used a combination of Ultra Service (brokerage) and MySmart for over 10 years now without problems. There are various Fidelity credit cards that are available as well. |

| Yeah, a guy I work with was going to go with Schwab, but the mail in deposits was a deterent to him. With Fidelity, you can just go into any Fidelity office to make a deposit. Most have machines that accept deposits, but at some you'll need to go to the front desk. |

3 edits | reply to Packeteers Best Banks for Forest Hills which are in the best interest of the consumer based on all possible banking choices:
»www.hsbcdirect.com HSBC Direct, a division of HSBC Bank USA
»www.igobanking.com Igobanking, a division of Flushing Savings Bank
These 2 banks have the highest interest rates in town and are also banks without risk of default at this time.
Each one has their own advantages and disadvantages.
There are no minimum balance fees with either account.
The best website to compare banks is:

| reply to Packeteers I keep my money(not that I have very much) under my pillow. The banks today don't give you much off anything for the money you keep in there.they give you shit for interest(maybe 2/3 %).They charge you for every little thing. I remember 20 years ago you could get 5-6-7 % interest on your savings accts. Banks have changed alot. |
