BlitzenZeus posted : The game will always run the safedisc malware installer/installation verification program before running itself, and older version might not work well in newer operating systems.

Years ago I got a Myst game, last Myst game I ever bought due to this kind of crap... My system became unstable, and the program was actually crashing. I figured out how to manually remove it, and they made it hard by removing the administrator access to parts of the registry where it's settings resided. You had to give yourself permission again to delete all the entries, and delete all the files. If you rebooted, and it wasn't completely gone you didn't get everything.... It's malware, it self replicates... It's more like a malware rootkit....

Forget this game, or run the game in a virtual machine, but even fresh installers will keep trying to install safe disc. If you can get a special installers from the company to work without safedisc, make sure you have completely removed it first, then use the special installer, otherwise forget about this game.

Companies, and software like this is why I moved to console gaming, along with being very picky about which game software I run on my pc, they can't pull the safedisc crap on consoles thankfully, they won't allow it.

Edit: You had to run these programs as an admin ONLY for the reason of safedisc, otherwise they would run fine in a user account. So they forced people to run these games as admins, ignoring the security of user accounts. The games customer support directly lied to me that I had to run the game as an admin, and after I got the updated installer I was able to run the game as a user.
--
My hourly rates:
$25 per hour.
$35 per hour if you want to watch.
$45 per hour if you want to help.
$75 per hour if you tried to fix it, and failed.
$125 per hour if you called tech support, and didn't fix the issue while making things worse

BlitzenZeus posted : Safedisc??? BAD STUFF, contact them now for a version that doesn't require safe disc malware. I'd actually suggest going to a previous image, or using system restore to get rid of safe disc as they NEVER provide an uninstall for it.

Safedisc is malware, it will cause system instability, they made it hard to remove manually, and there is no uninstall.

dave posted : Well, it means what it says - this program is broken.

'Safedisc Srv Tool' seems to be part of a copy-protection scheme on this game. You can google for it, but there's not a whole lot of info. Some people seem to think it just won't work with some writeable drives. You may be out of luck.
