[Need Info] WebDav/S to drive letter - freeware only

Looking for freeware and freeware only for XP that supports WebDav/S (SSL) secured mode to connect a WebDav/S server such as CPanel WebDisk on port 2078.

XP native support only allows non secured and on port 80.

If possible it should support the ability to be scripted/batch file to automate reconnection of the drive at startup/reboot ala the net use command.

Software should be an actively developed project.

Thanks in advance.

I just verified on my cPanel box & though some articles that WebDav w/SSL security works just fine on XP.

I just did it :/

I added a new network place using: »https://webdisk.mydomain.com:2078/ and it worked perfectly.

Some people say that »support.microsoft.com/kb/892211 is required to be installed for it to work, but I'm going to surmise that it's already included in SP2.

Thanks but I require DLA (drive letter access), not network place. Users have to be able to access this just like any other drive on their system.
Additionally software internally only supports drive letters be they physical or network drives.

XP SP3 or better is required for WebDav/S on non port 80 for DLA.

XP SP3 upgrades are not a choice.

Perhaps I'm showing a misunderstanding of the technologies involved, but wouldn't WebDav and DLA be mutually exclusive? I mean, the whole point of WebDav is to access a storage space via HTTP or HTTPS.

My 3 minute research turned up stunnel as the tool de jour to fake windows into thinking it's using http but it really uses https.

said by »www.simple-groupware.de/cms/Main/WebDAV :

Also, the Mini-Redirector included in Windows XP only supports port 80. If your server is only available on SSL, you can use a tool called "stunnel" to provide the missing SSL client. Windows binaries can be downloaded here. Then run "stunnel " on the client. The config file should contain:
Replace with the IP or the DNS name of your Simple Groupware Server. Using this configuration, stunnel maps the port ":443" to "localhost:80" and handles all the SSL stuff. That also implies that port 80 is not used by another program on the client. After running stunnel, you can mount the driver letter with "http://localhost/sgdav/".
I found that page linked on: http://smallvoid.com/article/winnt-webdav-network-drive.html which talks about the limitation.

Thanks, I've seen that too.. thats just not the route I want or desire to go. Adds more areas to fail.

You understand that this is a utility that'll allow you to do exactly what you want and even script it out as you mentioned in your OP.

I mean you're going to have to use SOMETHING since you want to access it via a drive letter. This utility is going to allow you to do that and the way you want to achieve it too.

You might want to edit your OP and mention all the things you've tried and won't accept so that no one else wastes any time.

freeware equivalent of webdrive. or the old Jscape Red Drive (which is no longer developed or mainted)

$3,000+ is not going to fly to do this.

One piece of software, not a tunnel program, a program to connect to the tunnel , a program to connect the tunnel to a DLA, etc..

Layer on layer on layer on layer...more to setup, more to break, more to troubleshoot, more that can and will go wrong.

ONE program that does what needs to be done. Should intergrate into win enough that its function is a seamless as connect network drive.

The program must be able to automatically reconnect these net drive letters on reboot by itself via config option or command line batch file operation ala regular net drives via "net use ...." I

Users shouldn't have to know any thing about whats going on. The less they know the better.

It sounds as if this is a tall order. Have you considered other options in the interest of minimizing your users' downtime?

This is one program combined with existing OS functionality.

No offense sir, but I think your expectations are a little out of line with reality on this issue.

The utility I found will accomplish this task and do all the requirements in your most recent post.
