tim_k : Network congestion is the result of an over sold circuit. When it happens, try some of the test tools here »/tools to see if you can find out where it is. Then maybe your ISP can move you to a different circuit or less congested equipment.
--
RIP my babys Buttons 1/15/94-2/9/07 & Beamer 7/24/08, Buttons, Buttons video, Beamer

hdinh1985 : i get home from work around 7:30 when i get on. so yes i guess it does happen around prime time... but my wife will say it'll happen during the day too. but not always.... this week it only happened on tuesday. We also live in an apartment compex, so maybe its from sharing it with other residence? if its network congestion, how does one go about fixing it? possibly tweaking the connection? if so, where should i start?

tim_k : Does this only happen during prime time? Is so, then you're probably seeing network congestion. That will be difficult to fix depending on where the congestion is.

hdinh1985 : what i mean by "unsteady" is that while playing a game, the connection will seem smooth for a little while then i'll get huge spikes that'll "teleport" me forward a few feet. I can tell the difference between my stable connection and unstable, not to mention typical lag. What it looks like when i'm surfing the web on my computer is much the same. Web surfing will seem smooth for a little, then i'll suddenly get huge pauses in loading then back to normal again... i just dont get it.

hdinh1985 : So i've got 10mbps cable with Service Electric. I use it mostly for playing competitively on xbox live, and most days my connection will be fine. But sometimes, for a couple of days, my connection will seem to have alot of packet loss. or at least thats what i think it is. its not a consistently laggy connection, but it'll be completely unsteady. It's so extremely frustrating to deal with and try to diagnose and fix. i'll restart my modem numerous times, and check and retighten all my cable plug ins but to no avail. I'm usually stuck having to just wait it out for a few days till it fixes itself, but Service Electric is no help. i'll call customer service and they'll say my line is fine... please help me!
