DI-604 router cuts 15 Mbit/s speed in half

Hello,

I have new HSI service with Comcast and I'm using a Linksys CM100 cable modem.

A few minutes after my initial call to tech support to set up the line the speeds I got and still get are about 15.8 Mbit/sec down, 8.5 Mbit/sec up, as expected, on a Vista machine connected directly to the cable modem.

But when I hook up the Vista and a Linux machine to a D-Link DI-604 router and the router to the modem, the down speed gets cut in half, maybe about 8.5Mbit/sec max, while the up speed stays about the same at 8.5 Mbit/sec, from either the Vista or the Linux PCs.

I've power-cycled the modem after connecting it to the router with no effect. The router has the latest firmware available (it's a discontinued model) and in its WAN settings I cloned the MAC address of the Vista PC (can't get a connection otherwise).

Can you tell if this is a router problem, Vista problem, OS problem, or if I need to set anything on the router to avoid this dramatic reduction in downstream speed?

Thank you for your help.

It's the router considering everything is fine when it is taken out.

The problem is that router has a 10mbit WAN port that is limiting your speed. No setting or adjustment will help as this a hardware limitation of the router. Luckily the more updated routers on the market can be had for fairly cheap.

[oops... wrong response to your post.]

Did you say 10Mbit WAN port?

That would explain the problem. It looks like a router upgrade is in order.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the tip again.

I finally found another post on this board with the exact same problem.

The router has WAN speed setting in Tools > Misc and setting it to 100Mbps allows the full 15Mbps down speed.

Excellent!

Looks like I was wrong in there being no setting for that but you got it going anyways! (Been awhile since I messed with the DI-604)

Congrats!
