2 edits | Dead cable box? Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 HDC
While watching tv, my picture went out, but I could still pull a channel guide and change channels. I unplugged the box for 10 minutes, plugged it back in and turned it on.
I got the following: boot OCAP with boot screen The boxes that represent the software loading ( I guess ) filled left to right for the first 5. The last box never changed color and the display on the box says APP or RPP, dunno which. I unplugged it and left it powered down for over 30 minutes with the same results.
With a background in computers, I'd say the box software got pooched but thought I'd ask here just to be sure. If the box is dead, what is the latest and greatest I should aks for when I hit up the cable office? Thanks!
Oh yeah, I'm served by Mid Ohio but I can sneak over to the Western office to get items, it's closer.
Edit x2: I guess Time Warner was pushing new software out tonight. I had left the box on just for shits and giggles. It eventually went to the Mystro screen and downloaded the channel info....go figure. |

1 edit | I've had the Mystro since it was introduced in my area. and thanks for the advice Hob, but could you get them to send me a notice if it's service night? |

 | reply to CompUser Sorry to revive a thread but I have experiencing the same issues with this APP message. This is my second box today and it just sits at "APP". I'm wondering if your issue was resolved? If so, was it just TW's signal being down or a problem with the box? |
|
 | I guess Time Warner was pushing a new firmware at the time, I don't know for sure. This one time is the only my cable box has said APP, so I'd say the issue is resolved. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. |

| reply to CompUser Usually when they have been doing the software / firmware upgrades locally it was during the daytime.. at least in Milwaukee,WI. It would be nice if they scheduled it for at midnight or so though.
[And sometimes when the DVR is recording something.. there goes half the show, as it won't finish recording.] |

2 edits | reply to CompUser Ok, this is just silly. Another update night? Really? Was everything working ok so they mucked with it? Channels are out, can only pull the guide. Watching tv, screeeeech... 2:20am, no tv. Can I get a truck roll right now?
Cancel that truck roll, 2:52am cable is back, without a box reboot. |
