I know this may put a jinx on the idea that symmetrical speeds are out there for everybody.. but it's Possible that symmetrical speeds are a perk for subscribers who have triple play packages.. because I remember verizon tweaking the upload for "on demand" content pushed over the internet ip portion of the FIOS network (for those VIDEO subscribers who have FIOS TV), so the extra symmetrical "love" may just be that result of pushing extra bandwidth for those customers ONLY. I sure hope that's NOT the case and it's just a result of equal customer love (and competition).
On the other hand: the $25 dual play savings I've been getting w/ cable is about to expire next month, so FIOS is looking better and better-- but number portability is Umm.. nonexistent with cable... gulp. Oh well, prepaid cell phones to the rescue! This is the solution that will no longer keep me hostage to lack of cable VOIP number portability. Sure hope cablevision has a competitive answer...
reply to tmc8080 I'm not sure what you mean. I've had the same phone number for 8 years and have gone from Verizon (copper, aka old telco landline) to Vonage to Time Warner VOIP, back to Vonage and now to Verzion (Fios triple package FIOS, VOIP PHone, TV)
I've moved from 2 different states (job transfer) over the past 8 years and have had the same phone number the entire time.
Are you saying you can't get your cell phone number to port to VOIP?
