The circumstances in which what you describe happen would be interesting to know.

Have they tried changing channels on the RG?

| That sounds like classic interference. Is the second computer also connected via WiFi? Sometimes changing the WiFi channel will help. The RG is supposed to auto detect interference but it may be worthwhile to try and troubleshoot with that.
As a matter of record though U-verse in general plays nice with online gaming. I play WoW and Xbox Live and have had no problems. The difference in latency was almost negligible coming from DSL and is still far more reliable than the cable modem before that. We often have 2 HD streams and 2 computers connected running at the same time.

| I've helped someone with this issue before, it was the fact that they were playing over Wireless. The best idea is to get the PC hard wired. Another option if it's available in his area is for the tech to install the Asoka ethernet over power adapters. This would eliminate the running of hard line (Or you can pick them up yourself at Newegg for cheap »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···33122166) And then you could just use the existing power lines in your house as your "hard lined connection" But unless you're using Wireless N, I would never use wireless for gaming, just have seen a lot of bad throughput on wireless G, plus everyone uses it, so you get a lot of interference.
Thanks, Matt

P.S. If you can get his billing account number and a good call back number, I would be more than happy to call him and setup a dispatch with him if need be. -- I'm an AT&T Employee dedicated to phenomenal customer service! 1 edit | Re: UVerse latency issues with online gaming, alternatives? said by schja01 :Thanks all. I tend to agree with the Wi-Fi being the issue. Matt, would AT&T typically supply and install the Asoka Ethernet over power adapters if needed? If we find the wireless to be the problem, yes, and I believe it's also free (Don't quote me on this, I could be incorrect, really depends on the tech) if we find the wireless to be the issue, but the other reason I posted the link to the Newegg is because the ethernet over power adapters aren't available everywhere, and we are still testing them in certain areas. But it's also a cheap/quicker way to get it done instead of waiting on a tech, and then waiting an hour or so for them to run the cable and patch it and etc.
Thanks, Matt.

If he choses to pursue with Matt I will forward the particulars via IM when he gives them to me. So for now I'm in a holding pattern. Tnx all. Just called him today, and he said there weren't any issues after they installed and hooked up the adapters, so looks like it's been taken care of, though I will be watching over it for 2 more days to make sure.

| Re: UVerse latency issues with online gaming, alternatives? said by schja01 :He stopped by my desk first thing this morning and said he had installed the Ethernet over Powerline adapters. He said so far his son has not been dropped but he added that this part of the week isn't the busiest either. He needed a little longer Cat5 jumper so I gave him one I had squirrled away in my desk. That should make his setup complete. Thanks again. No problem and you're welcome, I will try and keep up with this and make sure that everything is good, after I close the ticket if he begins to have problems, I have no problem re-opening it and taking care of it.
Thanks, Matt
