»ZyWALL USG 100 v2.12(AQQ.0)C0 firmware is out
The above post got me thinking about the subject. Besides SSL VPN, are the zyxel routers ZyWALL of old and USG series fully compatible with MAC OS and LINUX OS with respect to VPN. I have always assumed that routing is universal but not so for SSL VPN???? |

| Routing is universal, but VPN needs a client ie you need the client to compatible. Just because you don't install a client, does not mean that a client is not used, it can just be embedded/supplied with the OS.
IPSec, PPTP, L2TP and SSL VPN are all the same when it comes to this. -- "Perl is executable line noise, Python is executable pseudo-code."

| reply to Anav Is there a Product for the Home office that you can recommend that will allow Linux and MAC OS X Clients?
I have tested a Linksys WRV200 and a Netgear pro safe router, both with only offer the IPSEC client software for windows xp. Have not been able to get other platforms to work the routers or yet find something that will support Linux or mac without having to look into building a desktop into a router, i rather keep things thin at this point. |

| Free S/WAN on Linux used to work with the ZyWALLs at least, in Ubuntu there is the VPNC thing that most likely works, not sure which other distributions uses VPNC.
For Mac I guess any IPSec client will do, I think there are mentions on this forum about IPSec clients runs on Mac and works with ZyWALLs -- "Perl is executable line noise, Python is executable pseudo-code."

1 edit | reply to Anav Mac OS X has VPN built-in but by default only allows you to configure L2TP/IPSec or PPTP. For IPSec you can use a free client like IPSecuritas or a commercial client. |
