| [Config] Help w/ dual switches for failover static route
I have a pair of identical 3550 switches that I would like to configure so one can be a secondary or failover switch. All of my servers have dual ethernet ports and most of my desktop client machines have dual ethernet as well. How would I go about configuring the switches and my (WinXP and Linux) PCs so they would normally use the first switch, but would utilize the second switch in the event of a failure of the first switch? I am thinking a combination of static routes and route metrics would do the job but I have not yet been able to make this work. Any thoughts? |

| Even with HSRP, if you dual-attach every server to each switch you will need to configure vendor nic-teaming software for active/standby. This "inverted U" architecture was common for a while before multichassis etherchannel / virtual port-channels was an option. |
