[Hockey] Joe Sakic to retire. Pronger keeps on going.

Rumour has it that Sakic will retire on Thursday. Best of luck with the remainder of your life, Joe. You're all class.

On the opposite end, Pronger just signed a seven-year extension with the Flyers. I suppose as long as he can keep his elbows up, Philly's gonna be happy.

You make it sound like Joe is dying. I am sure he will have lots of fun playing golf with The Leafs this year... and wining.

Sakic has always been 1 of my favorite players and has won me many pools ,in his peak years.

The Canucks should have gone after him harder, instead of getting that albatross Messier......especially being a B.C. boy

a classy player and I'll never forget his winning goal against the Yanks in the Gold medal game in Salt Lake city.....thought Gretzky was going to jump out of the box. lol

Pronger still is one of the top defencemen in the league, but 7 years for a 34 year old player is a little much. He's definitely past his prime and will only get worse as time goes on. If he plays out the 7 years he'd be 41.

Pronger relies on his strength as well as his long reach. As he gets slower, he'll be less effective. I love Pronger, but I don't see him making it through 7 years unless he takes on a lesser role ala Chelios.

This is an extension: add one year and he'll be 42 in fact.

He's got a no-movement clause in his new contract.

I'm sure he's had those before...

I'm gonna miss Burnaby Joe. One of my faves.

I certainly won't miss Pronger playing in the west. Good thing Burkie is making those Leafs tougher.

Happy retirement Joe. Always liked watching you play. You and Stevie Y. are two of the classiest players of Our time.

Marc Crawford on the radio today was saying he thinks of Joe Sakic as the next generation of Jean Beliveau. I like that assessment a lot. Way to go Joe!

A couple of tributes...probably the best wrist shot in the league.
