 | Motorola SB5120 won't configure for an ethernet connection So last night I reinstalled Windows XP to get rid of a bunch of viruses my computer had, and now that I'm reconfiguring everything, I find that my Motorola SB5120 Cable Modem won't setup for an ethernet connection. Now, there's two methods for connecting it to your computer: via ethernet, and via USB. Now when I connect using USB, the modem is detected right away, and the connection is complete. BOOM. Internet. But when I try to connect via ethernet, nothing happens. When I check my network connections, there's nothing in the window.
Ethernet is really the only way I can go because I have a Linksys WRT54G that also needs to be connected. Any help? |

I'll take a wild guess. You reinstalled Windows, but didn't fully install all the required drivers like the Motherboard Chipset (Intel, AMD, NVidia, Etc) drivers, the Video Drivers, the Audio/Sound Drivers and/or the Ethernet Drivers.
Look at your Device Manager for any devices with Yellow Exclamation marks. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

 | reply to Omega Bundt Cake Okay, I've installed a driver that I foolishly overlooked, and now the network connection is displayed, but it is listed as having limited/no connectivity. I know I've been able to restart/refresh my modem in the past, but the details are escaping me and I feel like a true dumbass. Any help? |

|
 | reply to Omega Bundt Cake I disconnected the ethernet, and the status icon in the lower right on the desktop changes to the red X and a help balloon comes up notifying me that a network cable is unplugged, just as expected. Switching the ethernet cable changes nothing. Any other suggestions?
I appreciate your help alot. |

You may have to reset the Modem, leave it off for 5 Minutes and then turn it back on. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |
