[ PHONE] Unlisted Number Fee

I understand Cox charges $5.50 per MONTH for an unlisted number. Isn't this rather high?

Charging anything at all for a privacy opt-out feature seems especially out-dated today. What is the cost of providing this "service", I wonder?

To not print your name in the book? my guess is NOTHING at all. as is with most of these extra services, they're pure profit. e.g. caller ID costs a few pennies to provide yet what does the phone company charge? you get the idea.

As far as I know charging a fee for an unlisted or unpublished phone number is still pretty standard practice among telephone service providers.

I agree that charging for an unlisted number "service" is still common with all telephone providers but that still doesn't make it right and it should really stop.

Sounds like extortion, no? Pay us this fee or else we will print your phone number in a book and everyone will see it. Then you will get ceaseless spam calls and you'll be bugged to death.

Especially since it would seem that it would cost the company less to publish the least amount of numbers possible making for a smaller book with less pages and less work. In my opinion you should have to pay a fee if you want your phone number listed because it costs that company money to list it.

I'm just sayin'
