Issue with bridging Actiontec Rev E. disconnects?

So I'm trying to figure out why i'm having these weird disconnect issues.

I completly followed the walkthrough on how to bridge the actiontec rev E router with my own (Dlink DIR-825) and also have VOD/TV guide working perfectly.

When using my laptop to connect wirelessly to my D-Link, I can browse websites, watch videos, whatever... and I dont have a problem. Seems the connection is perfect and everything works fine with no problem

HOWEVER when I turn on my wired computer (to the Dlink) and go on a website or two(depending on the site, CNN for example) my connection then gets killed for both computers. Also having to reset the routers to regain internet back.

Couple of notes:
-While the internet gets messed up, I am still able to log into the Dlink router (still gives me a normal WAN IP)
-Can also static-log into the actiontec with no problem.

Question is.. why the heck would going on the internet on one of my other wired computers cause it to stop working?

It is really not that complicated.

1) Hook your router up so it's input comes from the ONT.

2) hook the Actiontek input to an output of your router

3) Disconnect the Actiontek Wireless. It is drek

4) Take the rest of your network out of your router

5) Call tech Support and have them break the lease so your router will be granted an IP address.

6) The Actiontek should then be granted an IP address by your router and then your Set Top Boxes should be able to call home.

7) Your wireless devices will be talking to your Wireless Access Point and not to the Actiontek drek, and not experiencing the periodic blackouts caused by the Actiontek WAP.

8) Your system will not choke with multiple connections, you will be able to set a decent QoS or forward ports.

9) Hopefully you didn't buy anything from DLink.

Which set of instructions did you follow?
There are a number of different ways to connect your own router itemized here:
»Verizon Online FiOS FAQ »What are the tradeoffs between the various router configurations

Without knowing which method you followed, it is difficult to make suggestions.

Is your D-Link connected directly to the ONT (cat5)?
Is it getting a WAN IP address?

If you have wireless disabled in the Actiontec, and the D-Link is getting a WAN IP address, then you should be able to remove the Actiontec temporarily and eliminate that as a source of the problem. You'll need to put it back to restore VOD and guide data.

Or is the D-Link connected behind your Actiontec?

If you are using a LAN-to-WAN connection from the Actiontec to your D-Link, is the LAN side of the D-Link on a different subnet than the Actiontec?

If you used a LAN-to-LAN connection from the Actiontec to the D-Link, did you disable DHCP server in one of the routers?

OP didn't say anything about using Actiontec wireless AP.
He specifically stated that the problem occurs when he connects two computers to his D-Link; one wired, one wireless.

It's not clear if the OP is getting a WAN IP address on the D-Link, or a private IP address from the Actiontec. In either case, it appears it is the D-Link that is not acting properly.

If I missed that point, it is because his symptom sounds so much like the most common complaint about the Actiontek. I have also had a case where someone put another wAP in but did not shut down the Actiontek, both on the same channel with the obvious outcome.
and I have never met a DLink that I liked. Indeed YMMV, but that has been my experience.

This is exactly what I needed and followed: »Re: MI424WR-GEN2 Rev E Configuration Thread

It's bridged, so it's showing my external IP address on my D-Link. Not too sure if It's the D-link or the actiontec because I never had this problem on my dlink before. My guess it's something going wrong with the bridging but not sure what.
I redid these steps over and over again with the same outcome

•How are you connected to the ONT? cat5 or coax?

That post was specifically for a Rev. E connected to the ONT via cat5.
It has not been confirmed to work with a coax attached Rev. E, although it might be possible.

•Have you disabled wireless in the Actiontec?

•What is the LAN subnet of the D-Link?

•What IP addresses are the STBs, wired and wireless computers getting?

•What model D-Link router?

•Have you tried disconnecting the cat5 patch cable from the D-Link LAN to the ethernet WAN port on the Actiontec?
This will temporarily break VOD and guide data to the STBs, but it simplifies the configuration from two bridges to one.
The D-Link should still pull a public WAN DHCP address and your PC's should be pulling DHCP addresses from the D-Link.

You were right from before More Fiber. I totally forgot I had the router replaced and this was a brand new one and jumped the gun. Ended up trying my old router and had no problems.

Seems it is the new B1 version of the DIR-825 having known internet disconnection issues. Off again to the tech support for dlink =(

Thank you very much!
