| shaw UBE installers
Hello my name is Matthew Im currently looking into careers in telecommunications.
I had seen a topic on here before about ube installer earnings. Im curious about what schooling one must take before he/she could get a job as a ube installer or where would be a good place to get started towards a career in this field.
"Im sorry if this is in the wrong section" |

@shawcable.net | ^Exactly.
If you dont get hired on right aways as an installer try for service rep and work your way up. |

| reply to MwStudent Obviously schooling is an asset and I believe there is some kind of cable technician course at SAIT or NAIT. Some of the installers are electricians that have switched over, some have computer educations/backgrounds, while others don't have much formal education, and are just generally smart or handy.
I can't speak for all systems of course, but more or less if you are good at dealing with people, are trainable and already have an idea what you are doing you should be in the running. Wiring experience and computer skills is what you want.
You also have to supply your own vehicle and tools, some people are scared of this at first, but it isn't that bad, and makes for a nice pay day at tax time.
The unit base installer jobs pay quite well, but are also very demanding and challenging. It can be tough to do good work, do what the customer's ask for, and still stay on an already far too busy schedule, and not having complaints rolling in about you.
If you can handle the swings in the paychecks, and don't mind working some crazy hours (one day you might work 4 hours, the next you might work 12), it can be a very rewarding job. |

@videotron.ca | reply to MwStudent I'm curious,
Shaw Cable has some in-house installers or it's all contracted out? |

@shawcable.net | reply to MwStudent Expect any where from $70K to $100K depending what system you work in. |
