Outlook Express Needs MS Office To Spell Check on HP Mini

I purchased an HP Mini Netbook. It came loaded with Outlook Express but a trial version of MS Office. I chose to use Open Office instead of paying for MS Office. I noticed that with MS Office deleted I now have no spell check capability in OE. Does OE need MS Office to spell check or is there something else wrong here?

When I compose an e-mail, the "ABC" icon denoting the spell check function is there but the icon is darkened and I can't access it.

Thanks in advanced for any help!

Do you really trust the software and site?

I should hope so! Vampirefo See Profile is one of our own. He developed this years ago and shared with everyone here. He used to be a prolific poster in the Security and Microsoft forums ....he's still around just not as frequently.

OE requires the spellchecker in Word which is part of Office. That is why you had no spellchecker after deleting Office. It was for this very sort of situation that Vamp created his little proggie.

»Add Spell Checker to OE 6 for free, read this.

Thanks for the word of caution Pandora. Even if Jesus had a download site I would still be cautious. I do trust that site.

Your assurance meant a great deal Mele20. Thank you! It works just fine and I don't have to pay for another installation of MS Office. Open Office also has an updated version of their suite and it's great.

Thanks VietVet for the additional resource.

If the rest of the Net was like this place then it would be a wonderful world.

I'm glad you like it. I also glad that you are cautious about where you download from and what software you try.

I didn't know Open Office had a update. Thanks for that tip. I need to see about that. (I have Word 2002 on this computer but on my next computer I will be using Open Office exclusively so I thought I should get familiar with it on this computer).

Hello Mele20,

I didn't realize that Open Office had an update either until I installed the older Set-Up file I had for the suite. After I installed, the program wanted to update. It's great! I think this is one of the best open source programs there are in terms of productivity.

Good luck with finding your "next" computer. Thanks again for your help.
