| [Equipment] Wireless Equipment?
I was wondering what other members opinions are on the WiMax equipment out there? Which do people think is the best? Alvarion, Airspan, Tranzeo, Praxim, Redline, Axxcelera, ect...
I ask because I am looking at building a fair sized WiMax network and so far to me Airspan's Micromax & HyperMax equipment seem like the best. I don't want to spend and arm and a leg for stuff and Alvarion seems rather expensive. Yet I have heard of problems with Tranzeo's stuff and others....
What are others opinions?
Thanks! |

| I look at it this way its like comparing 802.11B stuff to Canonpy gear..
Pay now or Pay later. In the long run your going to have to pay the piper for equipment thats been around and proven although expensive Alvarion has a very good reputation of having really good gear and backs it up with great tech support. Things may have changed in the last couple years but it was them and motorola always in the top 2.
Other stuff is good but will they stand the test of time like the the top 2 in the industry right now. -- ComTrain Certified Tower Climber. American Tower Certified approved contractor. Wireless consultants. |

| reply to oxygen69 For the 3.65GHz semi-licensed band we use Airspan MicroMAXd gear, and ProST outdoor subscriber units. We researched a number of different vendors and eventually sided with them due to their numerous channel width options, and high power output. We had to work pretty hard to get the pricing we're getting now, and switched vendors 3 or 4 times. Regardless of who you choose, it would probably be a good idea to go to a training seminar. Hindsight being 20/20 I would probably spend more time researching/testing Alvarion. The only thing that scares me about Airspan now is their company financially isn't doing great. |

| Is the wimax system delivering on the previous 'promises' (triple play, etc.) and/or is it just a way to get out of 2.4/5.8 for less interference?
wimax hasn't been brought up much lately and I wondered if it's getting closer to being ready for prime time (prime time = cheap enough to deploy and not charge customers an arm/leg)?
thanks,
