| internet speed is anoyingly slowed.
Ok so I've had it for over a year. i have the standard 8mbs but it within the last month and a half has been loading sites slow, not streaming videos seamlessly like it used to, and i cant play simple on-line games without some pretty hefty lag. I have called mediacom and they told me everything looked fine. SO i don't know what to do. could someone help? |

First of all post signal levels as IowaStudent posted. Do you have a router? If so does it get better without the router? What modem do you use? Does it change during the day or is it slow all the time? Do you lose connectivity sometimes? Have you tried tweaking your computer? What is your wiring setup?
Oh and welcome to the Mediacom forum! |

Speed is same with or without router. I have an RCA Thomson modem. and it is always the same no matter what time of day. i have done all that i know to try with my computer, so i have tried tweaking it. and not sure what you mean by wireing setup be a little more specific. Thanks |

1 edit | Remove any splitters is what Anon means Try plugging the modem in direct from the drop that comes into your house. (how many splitters?) try looking on the cables themselves for something that says RG 6 or 59 or 58 (Yes I had an RG 58 on a TV, I didn't do the wireing it was from 10 years ago) On the splitters, What is the mhz? look for 5-*Mhz Your are loosing speed because your SNR is fluctuating below 30, your modem power is also a bit high -5 to +5 is what is recomended |
