VirtualSlew posted : I would definitely go through the hassle of calling customer service. You will first get a customer service person that will give you standard pricing. After getting that information, tell the CSR that you will call back after you check with the cable company. Usually if you just so much as mention that you are going to check out the competition, you will be sent to the Elite Group. The Elite Group has the ability to add on discounts. I got a $180 discount on my triple play, as a $30 credit for 6 months. That beats the $5 online discount by a bunch. It's worth a try. If they don't send you to the Elite Group, call back and get a different CSR and try again.

BlitzenZeus posted : Do you have a landline, or a dry loop? Getting a package without the landline seems to be a challenge as nobody really need them these days so they try to force them into the packages, but maybe you can see if they offer a unadvertised package without the phone service for less.

If you might save $5 for a few months by ordering online, but if you need anything like cablecards, along with directly asking for an ethernet connection instead of coax for the internet you will want to call.

Also check to see if Verizon is selling off your state to Frontier since the companies that bought out Verizon's other old territories have gone bankrupt as they were not ready to handle it, which is what many fear with Frontier. »newscenter.verizon.com/press-rel···ine.html

Good luck.
--
My hourly rates:
$25 per hour.
$35 per hour if you want to watch.
$45 per hour if you want to help.
$75 per hour if you tried to fix it, and failed.
$125 per hour if you called tech support, and didn't fix the issue while making things worse

specular posted : I'm thinking of switching to FIOS triple play from satellite & DSL, but I'm wondering what would be the way to get the best deal on new service: via the online signup (currently a $5/mo discount), or trying to haggle over the phone (or via online chat).

Any thoughts/experiences? It would be nice to get some additional discount as the standard bundle pricing is significantly more than the combined price we're paying now.
