| Does anyone make a Decrypt box?
Got the Comcast digital Chicago letter and I'm not looking forward to cable boxes, A/B switches, another remote with tiny buttons, and all that first-generation nonsense.
Does anyone make or have plans for a Decryption-only box that decrypts the subscribed channels, while allowing the TV's Digital/QAM tuner to tune them and operate as god & Mr. Sony intended? Such a device would solve a whole lot of problems with things like DVT's, Media Center PC's, HD local channels, etc. Since cable card support is so spotty with TV makers, maybe it could use the providers cable card.
I'm not trying to steal something I'm not already paying for, just having things work simply and easily. |

1 edit | Yeah, its called a CableCard... get a tv that has a slot for one and you get decrypt only :P the only boxes out there that you will get that with is Tivo, no consumer boxes out there besides that with decrypt... you need some type of security mechanism... aka box with embedded security or cable card |

In addition to my TiVo HD w/CableCARDs, I have two older TiVos in other rooms that are simply plugged into the wall. Now I'll need to drag out the IR blasters again when I get the DTAs.
I'm really not interested in buying new TVs w/CableCARD slots, especially since the average 19" LCD doesn't seem to have one. For now, I'll cope with DTAs and see what happens with tru2way. -- If everything seems to be going well, you've obviously overlooked something. |

I am not buying big TVs for bedrooms in which they will see little use. Waste of money. -- If everything seems to be going well, you've obviously overlooked something. |

That being said, we have a 37" in the bathroom that gets turned on maybe once a week or so for 30-45 minutes. You never know, though, when I'll be spending a couple of hours in the whirlpool tub and need to watch a movie in there. It hasn't happened in 3 years, but a person can't be too careful. |
