ak3883 posted : Those fees are rediculous. I moved into an apt they charged something like $25 to come out and hook up my apartment at the locked box in the back of the building. I got digital cable with a DVR. The guy even installed a new outlet on the other side of the main room since I had an attic access panel in my closet. Custom length cut wires and all with the really nice tight compression fittings that quality tools produce.

Heck when I downgrade during the summer, I turn in the DVR box at my local office, and they only charged $2 for a change of service fee, and they had to come out sometime and put a trap on my line to filter out expanded basic channels(sometime during the day, don't need to enter my apt)

You should only be paying somewhere around $30 or so for an install. If they really won't, ask them if you really have to tell them to just bring a plain 10 year old digital cable box out to save $ on the install fees, then go to the office yourself the next day(or 30 minutes after the install) and swap that box for a DVR? They'll be getting the same amount of money from you for monthly services, and you'll dislike them a whole lot less, if they would just bring a DVR box out for the install.

reelbigfish posted : The fees are usually less the more services you get. With just internet and TV they tag on more fees than the triple play. The triple play was $99 with a $29.99 fee to activate the voice line and $29.99 connect fee. They waived the $99 fee for me. It does cost them money to send someone out there and like you I live in pre-wired building. They need to physically come on site to go to a utility room and connect your apartment to cable. They physically disconnect it when the previous tenant leaves to make sure no one can get free cable. Also, in my building Comcast, RCN and Fios all use the same coax so it is likely that it will be disconnected for another providers service. Even if you don't have that, they will disconnect it to keep people from stealing cable.
