Right now I have one prepaid T-Mobile phone and one postpaid 39.99 account that is maybe a year (or almost 1 year) into the contract.
I want to dump the prepaid and move both numbers to a family plan.
1. Will T-Mobile try to stick it to me since the existing contract isn't yet up? If not, can I play the cancel due to change in contract: "effective June 10, 2009, the Regulatory Program Fee (RPF) is increasing from 0.86 to 1.21 per line, per bill cycle.--as per the OP" but ultimately I want to keep my phone numbers and move to a family plan.
2. Is it every possible to get a prepaid number to a postpaid plan? I've read this is difficult if impossible.
3. I'm interested in trialing the T-Mobile at home phone service. The vonage alternative for $10 a month. When I added it to my cart on T-Mobile.com, it showed up as "FREE". Not the device. I would still pay 39.99 to buy the box, but it appeared that service was...free? I couldn't find any information online about that. Also is there a 30 day "trial" period I could do before committing to a 2 year contract?

You will not have to pay an etf to change to a family plan. You cannot use the RPF to avoid your contract, and keep using the postpaid service. The point of the clause is you are allowed to cancel within a certain time as you don't agree to the changes, they just don't drop the contract letting you keep using the service as normal.
Changing a prepaid to postpaid is just like a normal line, and a credit check. They just xfer the service internally. Also new lines are not forced into contracts unless you want to buy a phone with a discount, or get a special promotion.
NEVER do a two year contract for anything, NEVER... 1 year contracts at the most, the few extra bucks they throw at you to make it a two year contract are not worth the almost non-existent additional discount. If you don't get the insurance, and your phone breaks before two years, you might have a partial discount to use again if enough time passes, however they don't stack contracts so it might not extend your contract much at all. The cost of keeping insurance for two years is far more than cost of the additional discount for a two year contract. If you do choose a contract, make sure that the discount given is at least close to the etf, there is some cost involved with setting up a new line, however if the discount is only like fifty bucks for the entire year, you might as well just pay it if you feel you don't want to be stuck in a contract.
I don't know about the a free month of @home, but it's not free even if you buy the equipment, however $10 a month is not bad at all. | Thanks for the info and the advice about 2 year contracts.
I stopped by a store. Since I will lose all my prepaid minutes, I'm waiting until I'm almost out before making the switch. Also, I would like it it Gravity 2 comes out and is reasonably priced OR if it makes Gravity 1 free. | |
