ddysart1 posted : I appreciate all of the feedback. My original question has been answered and this thread has really gone off-topic. I will start a new topic about some questions/issues that I am having in trying to re-point my current dish.

I believe that I will take another stab at trying to configure my current equipment and if that does not work, will consider a new agreement with Hughes or possibly a new agreement with Wildblue.....not that I am looking for Wildblue to be the holy grail of great internet, but because the FAP is more conducive to my needs and their early termination agreement appears more forgiving a year down the road.

tobicat posted : You did not say what satellite you are on. IA6 and SatMex 5 are having problems right now. So you might have just picked a bad time to try and aim it.

Hughes is trying to do away with all 6000's.

But if you have one they still provide service (sort of) as you found out out.

have you looked at the upgrade page at my Hughes.net. They are offering some upgrades. To both 7000S and 9000 modems. They might even still be giving away 7000S/s for free. They were a few months back. I can't check it as they want a SAN #.

If you try again and don't seem to be able to get the signal higher you might try assigning the modem to a different transponder and trying to aim it. It will (should) revert back to the correct transponder when you finish. (Maybe more trouble than it's worth).

Any installer that tells you he does not know how to aim a 6000 is just full of it. They aim exactly like 7000's and 7000S's.

If you know you are stuck with satellite for a few more years I would just upgrade to a 9000 and get all new equipment. Your 6000 dish and transmitters must be getting old.

--
9000 spaceway III, 7000S SatMex 5 990, Dlink wirless

ddysart1 posted : I went up this weekend and did find that PC-OPI (not DSSatTool....sorry for my confusion) did work great. I still was not able to get my signal strength above 25 or 26 after messing with it for an hour or more.

Considering an upgrade/new contract or paying to have someone come out and re-point my dish without upgrading anything.

Finding someone has been a challenge. First person does not have any experience with DW6000. Second person was under the belief that DW6000 service should have gone away last month (or at least that is his sales pitch).

His service call would be about $125 to re-point my existing equipment. $99 will get me into a new agreement with new equipment. Seems stupid to pay more and not get new equipment, so I believe that if I call a pro in, I will upgrade or sign into a new agreement.

A call over the weekend to Hughes Customer Service ended with them ending the discussion when I stated that I had a 6000, so I can understand where the second installer may have gotten his direction from.

Any thoughts/advice on what to do? I have re-pointed this dish twice in the last 3 years....both times without a continuous signal meter, just refreshing the signal strength in the admin center with a laptop on the roof. Although I was not able to lock in anything higher than about 60 to 65 strength, those occasions proved less difficult to get at least a usable signal. I really thought that this would be a piece of cake after downloading PC-OPI.

Should I give up on the self performed re-point and sign up for the new service, or am I missing something?
