This is epic fail.

I wait for him to try his plans to monopolize transportation.

His first move will probably be to suggest GM buy Chrysler!

Hell, that's how he did it at SBC......

You got it all wrong!
He will buy AT&T so he can offer AT&T phone service as part of Onstar....

What I find amazing is how quick this was. A company I work for was in Chapter 11 for about 4 years. We didn't provide cars, we provided healthcare. To boot, we were a $300 million company (net revenue) at the time, but losing money due to outrageous expenses.

Amazing how GM came out of it so quickly. I guess when proper wheels are greased...pun intended.

Punny you should mention that.....
Yes that is because they had someone to steer them in the right direction, not put the brakes on prematurely to help them shift their corporate direction so they could convert (able) to a much leaner company. I wonder what the catalyst was?

Nicely done.

I figured it would "spark" a response.

I always wanted to say "I'll never ever buy a GM or Chrysler vehicle" except that I've always refused to buy those pieces of junk any way.

That's one thing Detroit has going for it, styling. But the car buying public rendered its negative judgment on the Big 3 a long time ago.

Even if Detroit did not have lingering quality problems, the market for cars simply isn't big enough to sustain the number of car companies that currently exist. If a company can't make a product that people will buy, then it has to fold. That is supposed to the American way.

I agree. I drove a Chrysler 300 with the V8 in 2006 and it was a piece of shit.

I agree that GM had too many divisions that produced cars that were too similar. Other manufacturers got it right.

I'd love to be able to "buy American" again. For now, I own a car from a foreign company but built in TN. For me, that's good enough until Detroit can show me otherwise.

While I love the Challenger, I haven't driven it, and I wonder if it's similar in form/function to the 300/Charger. With that said, I don't have the money or will for a 3rd car, and without a midlife crisis, the Challenger is out.

I like how many "foreign" car makes build vehicles in the US with US workers. Don't forget that while "foreign" car companies have been building more cars in the US that Detroit has been moving more manufacturing outside of the US.

Personally I don't see Honda or Toyota as foreign car companies anymore because they've been building cars in the US for quite some time now.

I also hope that Ford crushes GM and Chrysler out of existence. At least Ford is trying to do the right thing.

Well I can't believe they have Ed Whiteacre running GM. Words can't do it justice but it is almost as bad as Chrysler giving the guy a job (the former CEO) after allegedly destroying Home Depot.
I agree, If I were mandated to buy American, It would be a Ford which is a 180 for me since I used to be a GM supporter until I realized that my cars were supposed fall apart years AFTER the payments stopped, not before.

In Canada too. And very well built ones too.

So what's the excuse of the American owned car companies for building shoddy products year after year? It can't be the North American nationality of the factory workers. It has to be in upper management.

Frankly speaking, I don't care who I buy from. Ultimately, at the end of the day, I'd like to see 100% of my money go toward an American company.

With that said, my Dad bought American from 1964 until 1995. Bought an Audi. Grass was greener, but not by a large margin. Then, he bought a Nissan. God damn thing is a tank.

For me, I was born in 1975. I graciously accepted hand-me-downs of whatever I was offered, in my case a 1981 Olds Cutlass Supreme which, at 18 I loved. I'm not sure it was safe to drive, but hell, it got me places. In 1996 my parents gave me a 1991 Olds Cultlass Supreme, and again, grateful. Not the best thing in the world, and I had to tinker and replace certain things, but whatever. When I was older, I bought a VW, and unless I hear that VW makes the best thing since sliced bread, VW/Audi will never, ever get another dime from me.

Right now, and since 2003, I drive Nissans simply because they work, and don't need jack shit except oil changes and regular maintenance.

To be fair, Ed probably knows as much about cars as the last set of executives who were running the company.

I am sure you probably know this but for anyone else who is curious, you can tell where your car was made simply by looking at the first character of the VIN. If it is a 1, 4 or 5, it was made in the USA.

As for the reliability issues... my mom's family still drives Pontiacs... and they are on a first name basis with the mechanic because they visit him so often. In this day and age, the fact that such a relationship can even happen is in itself an indictment of GM and Chrysler.

I am just so happy Ford is at least trying to do the right thing. I might even take them off my ban list if their quality continues to improve, though it will be a long time before I can afford a pickup truck.

Me too, it could persuade me to buy a 'foreign' car.

"I also hope that Ford crushes GM and Chrysler out of existence. At least Ford is trying to do the right thing."

Me too, but I have always been a ford guy. A lot of my dad's friends were saying how they were going to buy a ford truck because they got better mileage than the one they were driving at the time. Also a few years ago we were talking and he said the first carco to make a truck that got 20mi+ would be the last one standing, thats about what our ford truck gets. coincidence? I think so.

The great "Muscle Cars," Kowalski just inspired us all with his fast Challenger. I grew up owning GM cars, my first one was a 1950 Fastback Chevy, then I had two Camero's (1967 & 1972,) and in between my ultimate "Muscle Car," a 1966 White, 4 Speed Stick Shift, 396 Chevelle....What a Machine! My last GM Car was a 1978 Corvette. So GM was King in my book at one time, and I still think they are a great Company that just made some wrong decisions, and The Unions didn't help either.
