The $149.99 package says for High Speed Internet -
Download speeds up to 16 Mbps, uploads up to 2 Mbps with PowerBoost®.
Is that Blast! ? Am I going to be getting 16mbps but higher for powerboost? Or with powerboost in action does it go up to 16mbps? |

| reply to kILLDR3n Always worth calling and checking! (know what you are buying)
Blast! is actually 16/2, but is now advertised as " up to 20" in many areas. you should always** get 16/2, the 20+ is powerboost.
** on a stable plant the throughput is constant, storms, maintaince, damage, and other network events can temporarily cause slowdowns or outages. |

1 edit | reply to kILLDR3n If the area is DOCSIS 3.0, then for the Blast! tier, it'll say "up to 20Mbps with PowerBoost" (and the non-PowerBoost speed being 16Mbps)...
In your case, when the message says "up to 16Mbps with PowerBoost", then the tier is the 8Mbps connection, on a DOCSIS 2.0/1.x area. |

| reply to kILLDR3n I went and checked on this issue in Live Chat at Comcast.com. The operator I spoke with said that its Blast! in the package...which is a sustained 16mbps download. I'm still hesistant about this (his name was Jose, nothing racist intended). I'll probably call tomorrow and ask anyway about this, unless someone here has more info. |

| reply to kILLDR3n I just got comcast last week 6 Mb / 12 Mb i sometimes get around 14 Mb a sec. The tech (installer) told me that the powerboost is bullshit. He says paying for 6/12 is identical service as 8/16 except you pay more. They dont throttle your bandwidth. Your speed depends on where you are on the Node and how many other people are online. |

1 edit | Speed is never sustained with Cable modem, it bounces around a minute ago i was getting 1,500 KBs (1.2 Mega bytes) right now im getting 500 Kbps, with extremly high signal off the pole. They actually told me i might be to close to the Amplifier since i was getting 14.0 DBm, they cant install unless its less than 7.0 DBm at the modem. |

And it seems like this is the only comment that he was correct about... |

|
Goober Premium join:2000-12-17 Naperville, IL 1 edit | Yeah I know. I'm basing it on my recent installation where I've got a ton of splitters (two 1x2, 2 taps and a 1x4). At any rate, my transmit power isn't great, but okay at 51-52.
I understand your point though. |

| reply to SFFR Just because your near an amp doesn't mean you should have such high signal levels, they are set so that that doesn't happen. I am directly connected to the node, and my receive power is 0 dBmV. Maybe something else is wrong. I am surprised you aren't getting disconnected. |
