[IA] DVR is acting funny, all shows are being tagged as new

Since yesterday any show i have set as a series recording is recording it everytime it is on, even though it's set to record only new episodes. This is getting kind of annoying when it's recording 20-30 shows a day (damn my wife and her food network).

Anybody else come across this ?

Yes mine does it all the time. I think it is because of the show description in the guide info is missing "repeat". When that happens I think it just records even though it is not a new episode. I series record "First 48" on A&E and I also have it set for new only and it records all that doesn't specifically say "repeat" at the beginning of the show description which is most of them. I checked the guide for this Tuesday(7-14) and it is set to record First 48 at 6pm 7pm and 8pm, only the 8pm show is marked as "new" the other two don't say anything but HD at the beginning of the description.

It happens on TNT all the time. The first showing which shows (NEW) in the description records....and then all of the "repeats" of the same episode. To bad mediacom can't push out a firmware upgrade to the box to only record the "NEW" episode, which would be the first showing and not all the other repeats.

It's a problem with guide data across the board... does this with most cable companies (did it with charter) and I have the same annoyance with DirecTV.

Whoever they get their guide data from should be ashamed.

My Cable DVR just started doing this as well. This is the first time it has done this for the 2 years I have had it. It is not just an occasional show but lots of them.

All the sudden shows like House, Deadliest Catch, According to Jim, Eureka are recording every issue that is on.

It sucks......

Mine just did the same thing with According To Jim. Deleting the series recording and setting it back up fixed it.

I had to delete all of my series recordings last week, it started recording all shows including the ones that had "repeat" in the description.

A Deadliest Catch marathon a few weeks ago totally fucked me up. I had some other shows recorded that I hadn't watched. I always set recordings to erase when full, the default. The DC marathon completely filled the drive, wiping out the other shows. What pissed me off the most was the DC episodes were from like 2005 and 2006.

Another time, recently, the weather was bad, I had a show recording, and the National Weather Service alerts kept interrupting the show, and the recording. So I'd lose about 30 seconds of the show every 5-10 minutes. Something wrong happened though and the DVR got stuck recording the channel seemingly indefinitely. I caught it the next day when the drive was 98% full. It had been recording the same channel, no matter the show, nonstop since the night before. Came close to losing other recordings that time.

nice, i hate the EAS. i get the point, i really do. but i have a weather radio and there is nothing more i hate than being in the middle of a show just to get an EAS, oh the best part, it even interupts playback of recorded shows.

Well unfortunately, EAS is required by the FCC, so its going to be that way.

i get that, but does it HAVE to send you to the weather channel when a local station would be better? and why dosent the dvr just switch to the secondary tuner for the eas and have the primary tuner continue to record the program, that way, you dont miss anything.

@alpeng.com

Just get a tivo HD. I've never had any of the problems being discussed in this thread. For under $100, you can add an external hard drive too the tivo that will give you over 80 hours of HD record time.

oh, i forgot, and was just reminded of, some times when the EAS ends. your audio is still muted by the box, and the only way to fix it is to get a signale sent. i just had to argue with a tech about it! insisting it was my tv.

So you can't get the audio back by turning the volume up?
