Re: CRTC Hearing - Day 6 - The Last Day

Just in case anyone is going to ask here is the order of appearance for today's hearing.

Appearing individually
24. Union des consommateurs
25. Rogers Communications Inc.
26. Quebecor Media, on behalf of Videotron ltée
27. Shaw Communications Inc.
28. Bell Aliant Communications Partnership and Bell Canada

Bell is dead last, hopefully the CRTC throws them some curve balls.

Re: 10,000 Lawyers

JF, if it's any comfort, my four recorders (mains and backups) are now running. If all goes well, the torrents and direct downloads will be available shortly after the end of the hearings. You can catch up then if necessary.

BTW, Fido's PAYG data rates are 5 cents per kilobyte. The CRTC stream is 32 Kbps. That's twenty cents per second, or twelve dollars per minute.

Ouch!

The train driver, upon realising were were already past the time due at Ottawa (we are at Carlsbad Springs) FINALLY clued up and accelerated.

Now due at 08:50.

Called Fido and they told me with my package it is 0.01 per additiona, KB. Still expensive, but 5 times cheaper then their current rate.

I found it funny that the CRTC even bothered with wireless for internet since wireless is so expensive that it can't be used to download anything of value.

Actually, wireless can be practical, but the Canadian providers choose not to be fair and equitable. For example, at Fido's PAYG rates, 10 MB will cost me $500. But in London, England with my TalkMobile World SIM card, that same 10 MB will cost me only one dollar.

Oh! My favourite tune from "CRTC's Greatest Hits" is on!

If you're on prepaid, forget it even checking POP3 email will cost you quite a bit.

I assume this is some UDP stream where I don't need to send acknowledgements.

More than likely - it's a one-way stream.

I understand the CRTC hearings can be bilingual but it's annoying having to listen to the translated feeds since I don't speak french and most of the presentations have been in english.
