| VPN and non-VPN internet speed
After realizing that my internet speed slowed to a crawl when connected to a remote VPN, I decided to do some digging.
If "Use default gateway on remote network" on the advanced tab of the IPv4 protocol in the VPN properties is de-selected, non-VPN throughput is vastly increased.
Can someone explain exactly what this setting is? Does de-selecting it have any negative side effects? |

Also maybe ....
Your company is using VPN traffic for Internet traffic. It may be forced to use this as the default gateway to the Internet while connected, rather than your local gateway (router).
Usually all traffic (while connected through a VPN) is set to go through the company's gateway, to enhance security while connected. Or even the Firewall at your company's office may be doing this. FYI, disabling this setting increased my throughput by an unbelievable 17x. |
