Mele20 : I am a bit depressed...but not about Verizon. They neglected Hawaii and didn't want to acquire us in the first place when they bought Bell Atlantic so they would never have done the upgrades that we so badly need. Of course, with Hawaiian Tel in bankruptcy Verizon could end up with us again as the PUC might order them to take over if HawTel can't work out its problems. (Verizon's legacy to HawTel was to leave it and us customers with the worst mess of customer service, billing, etc. that I have encountered. It is the struggle still occuring to get past that horrendous mess (of which I was victim recently) that has crippled HawTel more than anything. I can't get DSL and I live in the second largest city in Hawaii...that is how bad our phone service is currently.

I think it amazing how long this kitty has lived happy and healthy after cancer surgery. I had a beloved kitty that was a ball of energy even at 11.5 years of age. Suddenly one day he had a seizure late at night and I had him at the vet's at 7AM (after speaking on phone with him right after it happened at 1AM). My sweet Moxie was dead less than 48 hours later. He had a tumor in his chest that had metastasized to his brain causing the seizures. It was quite a shock as he had been the picture of health and had the energy of a much younger cat up until the moment of the first seizure.
--
"The same ferocity that our founders devoted to protect the freedom and independence of the press is now appropriate for our defense of the freedom of the internet.
Mele20 : Yes, the OP may not have known how to upload to here. I didn't mean to come across as critical as I think I did. I have always very much appreciated the wonderful upload support and capability that Justin has given us from the beginning (at least since I joined here so many years ago) and would like to see everyone take advantage of this capability here. It might also be that the OP has a very low upload speed and sometimes that can pose a problem here. I have noticed that since my ISP gave us all 1mb up -from 384kb- (because the only competition had done it first) that uploads here are so much faster and I don't get any errors or partial uploads now.

I think I remember Hoversnap.
Mele20 : Awwh....she's darling! Thank you for the screenshot.

I opened Opera and I can see it there. I checked the properties and I could not see it on Fx because I have it set to not show images from third party sites unless I have put the site into my exceptions list. I would have allowed an exception for the photo if Fx had shown me a link but I see nothing in the post to indicate there is link to a photo on another site. That is something to do with a change in this site because I use to always see a link and could see what site the photo was on and decide if I wanted to view it or not, but recently I see nothing when someone uses third party sites for photos and screenshots so I don't know if there is a something in the post unless the author refers to their photo/screenshot.

It never fails to amaze me why someone would link to an unknown third party site for a picture instead of simply uploading to dslreports. The fact that Fx has this safety feature is one reason it is my default browser. (If dslr did not have upload capability that would be different as one would be forced to use third party sites). With Opera Unite now there is no need to upload photos to third party sites which is great.

Edit: BTW, your screen shot is far superior to that tiny photo.

--
"The same ferocity that our founders devoted to protect the freedom and independence of the press is now appropriate for our defense of the freedom of the internet. I just finished my last treatment today. It is a series of shots given 5 times over a 4 week interval on Day 0, 3, 7, 14 and 21 from exposure.

The first round of shots , on day 0, was almost $9,500. The rabies vaccine was $850. The imunogloben was $8,000 and the ER fee was $550.

The next 4 treatments were just the rabies vaccine and the ER fee so they were "only" $1,400 each. Total bill will be almost $15,000 !!! I know the insurance company has negotiated rates so it should end up less in the end.

I was not bitten by an animal but exposed to possible rabies infected saliva from a raccoon who was fighting with our cat. My gun was locked in a cabinet so I could not get it fast enough to kill the raccoon. My primary concern was trying to separate the 'coon and the cat. Raccoon got away and could not be tested. Without the head you can't be certain if the animal was infected. Did you know you can contract rabies even if you just touch the saliva and rub you eye? You do not have to be bitten. Since I did handle the cat after the attack, I was at risk.

So the message: Be very careful when you pick up a wild mammal. It could cost you a LOT more than a $100. vet bill.

BTW: The only place you can get rabies treatment by me is in the emergency room. Doctor's offices do not treat.
--
The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.

Kramer : That wasn't Fox news reporting it, but the AP. The incident happened a few miles from here a few days ago and all the local media covered it in detail. The 3 to 4% number sounds awfully high, as that would mean 1 in every 25 cats has rabies. If that were the case and I were the OP, I would be very concerned. In fact if I were a cat owner that hadn't obtained the rabies vaccination for my cat, I would be very concerned. Rabies kills tens of thousands of people worldwide each year. It is only because of a good public health system and strict local laws that we avoid the problem. People that bring feral cats into their homes are doing so against the advice of local health officials. People that don't get the proper vaccinations for their pets are lacking in common sense.

Edit: You misread the article. rabies isn't found in 3 to 4% of cats, rabies in cats is 3 to 4% of reported cases.

Our cat Teddy was found on someone's back porch when he was about 5-6 months old. We had him checked out and neutered and he was fine. It wasn't until he was about 7 and got very sick that we found out he was FIV positive. Meanwhile, we'd adopted Maggie. It turns out that it's hard to get a good result for an FIV test until the kitten is at least 6 months old. At the same time, it's actually pretty hard to pass it on to another cat unless they bite and draw blood. They can't pass it in food or water bowls. Teddy is now almost 14 and in good health. Maggie is 9 and still FIV negative.

mady
--
Honi soit qui mal y pense

I found a kitten.

stevennb : So today the GF and I were going to take our cars over to my parents house to wash them.

I'm sitting outside of the apartment waiting for the gf and out of the corner of my eye I see this little tiny black and white blur. I turn around and low and behold it's a kitten (pics to follow).

We asked around the apartments if the kitten belonged to anyone here and the people I spoke too said no.
It took us about a hlf hr to finally catch the lil bugger as he was running under bushes, branches and shrubbery (knights who say Ni approved btw).
We have him in the bathroom, he's got a saucer of food and water.

The reason we have him in there is that we have 2 other cats and I don't know if he/she has feline hiv or leukemia. As much as I'd love to keep him I don't think I can afford to have him checked out by my vet.
I can swing the food / toys for him but the initial checkup is going to be expensive.

Are there some sort of free/ pay what you can shelters that give him/her a look over?

ps- the gf has taken a liking to the kitty. :D
--
"They moved my desk 4 times already this year and I used to be over by the window and I could see the squirrels and they were married, but then they moved my desk and they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler.
