Re: Buffalo/DD-WRT setup help

SmokChsr, i went into Ip config and got the IP Address 192.168.2.2 Sub Net was 255.255.255.0 as normal, and Default Gateway was 192.168.2.1. I tried to make new settings in the Router after getting in via the Explorer message line at 192.168.1.1. and tried what I though was the right settings for Wireless access point by the DD-WRT Wiki pages. but something still not right. it won't connect. can you look at DD-WRT Wiki and tell me what all neds to be st up and what not to change. The guy from DD-Wrt help can't give me a specific setup for my use. I don't know if AP is right for a STANDARD Router hook-up.
Thanks
Dave H.

mod note: removed cellphone number

This seems to be the problem.. you are on net {192.168.}2.2 and the router is on net 192.168.1.1, if I understand correctly. I'm by far not the most experienced network person on the list, but those numbers indicate 2 different networks. If the router is 1.1 then your computer will need to have a 1.X number, to properly see it.

This tells me that your computer was either manually configured or is receiving its DHCP assignment from another router. With a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 all computers on that net have to have IP's in the range of 192.168.1.(2-255).

SmokChsr, I understand that the IP address is not right. The router is set with the 192.168.1.1 CORRECT and can't be changed???.
The Ip address was listed as my Belkin Router which is an Automatic set-up when you turn the computer on. Do you know how I can change the Computer to see the address of the router.
Do i have ti Delete the Belkin Stuff before I try and set up the Buffalo unit??, could that be causing the conflict. I did not know that this DD-WRT was so hard to work with. I wanted the BOOSTED Power output with DD_WRT to get more range, But this is getting to be a pain. I have fought this for almost a month now just to get it to work and still no working router.
Thanks
Dave

Are you removing the Belkin router to install the Buffalo? What it sounds like is that your Belkin is still in control of the network.

Configuring more than one router on a network can be done, but it's not something that I've had to do and is a bit more involved.

I guess now the real question is what are you trying to accomplish? If I'm understanding correctly you have the Belkin for internet access and now you are adding the buffalo (unknown for what purpose). For home networking you don't need (and probably shouldn't use) more than one router.

If you are using the Buffalo to add wireless capability, then it might be best to simply replace the Belkin with it. If you don't want to do a replacement then you would most likely want to disable all router functions on the Buffalo and allow the belkin to handle all routing.

I'm still troubled by the phrase "I can't get it to let me connect to the internet via my main computer" are you trying to run it through from the Belkin to Main Computer and then Buffalo?

For a typical setup both the main computer and the buffalo would be connected directly to the Belkin.

If you could clarify a bit on what the desired result is we might be able to help better.

I have disconnected the Belkin unit and only have the Buffalo hooked up to the DSL modem and then into my computer. I can access the router via Interner explrer as normal, but after I tried the AP set-up according to DD-WRT Wki pages it still does not let me conect to the internet. I can disconnect the buffalo and in seconds my Belkin has an Ip address and it will connet to the internet. I want to replace the Belkin so i can share my DSL with my son acroos the street but he is 200 ft away and I was told the Buffalo unit with a 23Db Dipole would get me a Great connection with the 500 mwatt G-Sky adapter card that is in his computer. I just can't get the Buffalo set up correctly. they won't let me post a phone number to make it easier to communicate with somebody like you and probably have it up and running in minutes if could talk to some one instead of Posting's. i am new to all of thsi posting stuff.
thanks SmokChsr for comming back to me, I need a lot of HELP right now.

Khrazee,is your DSL modem a router too,a DSL gateway? I have a Netopia DSL gateway, with a Buffalo WHR-HP-54G connected. I have it setup as an Access Point.

It is a Cayman 3300 ADSL Modem only. I really messed something up now trying to set-up my Ethernet adapter card in my computer. It won't connect to my Belkin Router now. Even went back and set things back to auto configuration and still does not work. Just going to unplug it for now and run direct to DSL modem. Tommorrow i will try the hard reset on the buffalo and see if your settings work that you listed. I was told that the Buffalo should auto setup just like my Belkin but it does not. Is that because of the DD-WRT software??.
