[DVR] DVR recording every show

Anyone else having issues with their DVR recording every show in a series recording? I'm finding the guide is missing the new/repeat indicator and as a result every show in a series recording is being recorded. The series are set to record new shows only.

I saw a couple of tickets go in this morning about this. Regardless if customers are indicating to record only new shows, the DVR is recording all shows. Said that it started yesterday for most customers.

It's not just comcast having this problem. I have Mediacom at my residence and my DVR's are doing the same thing.

Something with the guide data from the networks as of late in the last few days.

I am having the same issue. It seems to be a source data issue with TV Guide. For some reason, they are not flagging the data correctly.

it's been happening to me since thursday and I had to go through and manually delete all the shows that aren't new which tool 45 minutes since it is recording every episode of about 11 different shows.
Makes me wish I hadn't run up my directv or dish network bills and i'd be with them instead.

You'd be having the same problem. It's effecting all guide data across multiple companies.

Yeah I'm noticing anywhere from 16 to 24 recordings scheduled per day. Not really fun, I feel like I'm playing farmtown on facebook (click, click, click, click, etc...) trying to eliminate them.

The majority? Deadliest Catch, Jon & Kate, Gene Simmons Familiy Jewels, Top Chef, and heck even an old 2006 episode of Desperate Housewives on Ch 231 (ABC-D) at 11:35pm on Saturday night. Weird, and how off the wall. That's a LOCAL channel too! (WPVI 6 Philly)

Yep having the same problem here in Lebanon.

Seems to be CW, CBS, as I am getting all repeat / old episodes of CSI, CSI: Miami, and CBS: NY and NCIS. Plus several of my kids shows on multiple networks sem to no longer have the "New", "Encore", "Repeat" tags in the EPG data.

I did notice the problem reported in the Mediacom forum as well. They also use I-Guide on Motorola boxes.

Doesn't Mediacom share some Comcast infrastructure? I know I was able to get to some mediacom HSI customers modem diagnostic pages by going to the private IP ranges in the 10.x.x.x area from my Comcast connection.

Re: [DVR] DVR recording every show

I have the same issue. wonder if its some product placement gimmick? You'll just watch it if its old enough anyway. Or maybe it inflates viewer stats so commercials command more money?

I see it with "Bones", and I see that it does not happen with "Warehouse 13" (worked correctly) which I noted came on a second time, and claimed "new" in the description, but did not duplicate the episode on the DVR.

If a series program is tagged again as NEW, but there is a recording of that episode on disk, then it will not re-record it. That is the closest it comes to Tivo's 30-day rule. Once you delete that recording, it will re-record it if it's tagged as NEW.

I'm not certain how it handles untagged programs. Since they are often treated as NEW, it may work the same way.

Who does the tagging? Comcast, or is it some external process?

EDIT: Actually, thinking about it I do not think I've had two identical episode picked up. So its mostly Bones and various Law & Order episodes for me.

The tagging is done by the data provider, which is TV Guide. Comcast just passes the data on.

So if anything is intentional, TV Guide is party to it.
It really seems like TV Guide is just getting careless.

I believe that the Comcast Motorola boxes get their listings data from Macrovision (FKA TV Guide).

I wonder if you cancel the series recording and the reschedule it if that would stop the repeats from recording. I will try that tonight.

This was due to an issue with Macrovision. A fix was put in place to resolve this problem 7/16. Due to the way scheduled recordings are stored on the hard drive for 14-16 days of data delivered the issue will not fully self clear until 7/30. You can manually correct this problem by deleting the series recording and rescheduling the series recording. If you do this it should no longer be recording old episodes if you have "New shows only" selected.
