Evidently I got upgraded from the original 10Mbs down to the 12 Mbs and my up has improved some too, used to be .8Mbs up though it was supposed to be 1.5.

Looks like they got a St. Louis, MO server recently. Last time I did this the closest was Chicago, IL.

I was thinking about switching from Charter to U-verse, but why are the pings from everyone so horrible?

Below is the result from my speed test. I have a simi-old computer running Pfsense for a router and according to the RRD graphs, 7ms to 10ms is about the average ping for me. Not sure if I would really notice the difference between 7ms and say 20ms or 30ms, but there must be a noticiable difference with some of the 50ms+ people.

Also, in my area 12Mb is all U-Verse is offering. U-Verse just came into the area about 6 months ago, so I don't know if this is all we are getting or if there is more speed coming in the future.

Had U-verse Max 18 internet installed Friday 8/7/09 in Reynoldsburg, OH. Download speeds as measured by speedtest.net have varied from 8 Mgb to 15.1 Mgb. Seven readings over the last 3 days yield an average of 13 Mgb. I'm about 3700 ft from the VRAD with a #24 gauge wire. The drop from the riser to the UID is #22Ga. Connection from the UID to the RG is #22 Ga, and Cat5 from the RG to the computer.

This replaced Insight Cable Turbo internet service rated at 10 Mgb. I was getting speeds of 15-34 Mgb with an average of 25 Mgb for 7 readings taken the last 7 days of the Insight service. Insight had been steadily increasing their speeds over the last six months. In my case they went from about 5 Mgb to 34 Mgb with 20 ms latency. But I didn't like their DVR and I was having a lot of trouble with picture pixilation, especially on CNN. So I decided to change to U-verse.

My speed has dropped but the U-verse Motorola VIP 1225 DVR is far superior to the Insight Motorola DVR. Larger HD (250 GB vs 160 GB), records 4 channels at once instead of 2. Faster response for FF, RW and instant replay. Holds 233 hours of SD programming or 65 hours of HD programming. The Insight box would only hold about 25 hours of HD recording.

The signal to the TVs from the RG is distributed over Coax and seems to be working fine. I have recorded 4 programs simultaneously (2HD, 2SD) and used the browser at the same time with no noticeable degradation in browser page load speed or TV picture quality.

The ability to watch DVR recordings from any other television in the house is terrific. I have an Elegato EyeTV module for my iMac, so I can even watch the DVR recordings on the Mac and burn them to a DVD.

The TV schedule can be customized to show only your favorite channels and can be searched. Very handy. It is easy to record shows and set up series recordings. And you can delay the stop time of a recording so you can compensate for shows that run later then the scheduled stop time because they were delayed by an athletic event.

The ability to control the DVR over the internet is fantastic, and I find the iPhone app terrific. It has been given some bad reviews but it has been working great for me. So it doesn't matter where you are in the World. You can pull out your iPhone or find a PC and record a show, stop recording a show, or erase a recording on your DVR at home. Sweet!!!

I like the way the land line phone VoIP service integrates with the system. The on TV screen call log is handy and there is a complete log of incoming and outgoing calls and voice mail messages on the U-verse website.

AT&T has done a great job of integrating all household TVs, a DVR, a wireless gateway, the Internet, all wired and wireless computer work stations, land line telephone, and the iPhone into a seamless home computer, wireless and land line communication system, and television entertainment network. It really works!

So far I can highly recommend U-verse.

Upload speed leaves much to be desired, but at least I have HSI after five years of dial-up and high priced EVDO
Might try a closer server...

Have a hard time believing Wichita is within 50 miles of Pickens, SC...

I don't know what happened but I'm very pleased with the performance today. Maybe the isp looked into it after I sent results of their speed test.

I haven't been using the computer lately as mine is in need of repair and I couldn't get the wife or kids off the common area rig. While activating a GPS device last night and waiting forever on a 1650 mb d/l, I finally figured out my d/l speed is terrible and probably been for quite some time judging by the problems and complaints the family has had over the last few weeks.

I'm checking everything I can on my end before I start blaming the ISP but I'm pretty sure this has been going on since at least May - that's the first of a few times I tried to watch an online movie on Netflix but couldn't cause my connection was too slow... I just figured it was traffic on netflix and gave up for the time-being.

My test when first installed was 3500 d/l.
