| My first 80
So I finally got my first toon to 80. I'm still a total noob in many areas of this game, I play solo, save from some time to time grouping with friends, but no guilds. It took me forever to lvl this guy to 80.
So what now? I'm a very casual player, I don't mind blowing hours if something good will come of it, but I don't have the life that affords me 2am raids, etc. So what is the best plan to go from here?
I've got plenty of alts to run around with and lvl, but I want to keep my lock active and interesting too. (How long til the next expansion so we can go to 90? lol) |

| reply to captokita congrats on 80. and for what its worth, you're not a total noob if you've gotten to 80. being a casual player, you can run some instances/heroic instances. they are only an hour or so long. alts are a good thing. they keep things fresh to a degree. as far as the next expansion, i'd expect to maybe see it in a year and a half down the road. -- I've come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass and i'm all outta bubblegum. |

I'm sure we'll find out when the next expansion will be during blizzcon in August =D. |

| reply to captokita Congratulations on your 80.
Like you I soloed all the way, ten times. I am currently in a casual raiding guild. We raid two nights a week, Monday and Tuesday, from 7:30 to 11:00. If raiding is something you want to do you can look for a guild like this. Even being a casual guild we have cleared 25 man Naxx and have moved on to Uldar. We clear Naxx in a little over four hours. So it is possible.
You can work on maxing out all of your skills and rep or any of the other achievement type things.
Since the next expansion information hasn't been released yet you might look into raiding. I didn't when I had my toons at 70 because the next expansion was due out in less than six months and I didn't see the point in grinding out the gear only to have it replace by quest greens right after the expansion. During that time I work on my skills and getting some of the rep mounts. -- When will the people realize that with DRM they aren't purchasing anything? |

| reply to captokita Grats on 80! since this is your first time, make sure to finish all the quest lines in Icecrown. There is a ton of story and lore there. The Argent Tournament in Icecrown offers a great chance to get some good gear for minimal effort. It's a whole new game once you hit 80, enjoy. |

| reply to captokita Congrats on your first 80. You say it's a lock?
First, you should decide what gear to focus on. Are you going to pvp or pve? If you have a lock, you're in a great position as ranged dps to get into some heroic groups or easy 10 man raids. A really easy site to use for builds & other important information relating to your class is www.raider101.com. Or if you want to browse through elitistjerks for more theorycrafting I'd recommend it. |

1 edit | reply to captokita congrats on 80! my advise is look for a friendly casual guild. you can have a lot of fun doing heros and naxx10 with the guildmates.
most of the playtime we're in vent talking about everything (game and rl) and have a good time.
it's a game so enjoy it!
like gvtguy said doing a bit of theorycraft is excellent to understand your class and gives you the feeling of success you need. nothing is more frustrating for a dd to be always last at damage meters |

| reply to captokita There was a guild on my server that many people had alotta respect for because it was all dedicated casuals and it had been around for so long. Most of the people were 30+ and they raided twice a week through naxx. I still beleive they are working on clearing out 10 man Ulduar. They seem to have a good time playing though. I once was the lucky 10th pug on a naxx run and everyone was so laid back. No one linked meters or even cared about indivisual deaths as long as we all came together to down what ever boss we were on. We did 2 wings of 10 man naxx and then they decided to call it to another day. I was like o.0 but at the same time i was kinda content with just that. -- Coffee, Tea, SEGA!!! |

| reply to captokita Thanks all for the replies so far. Great info.
I'd love to get into some type of casual raid group I suppose, but I'm still lost on a lot of the terminology. I'm sure I'll pick it up as I get more involved in that aspect of it.
Again, thanks. |

| reply to captokita Go to wowmb.net, the warlock's den and go to the forums. Look up raiding builds and find Fallenman's posts. Learn what it is you need to get, and to do to max your dps. Look yourself up on wow-heroes.com and by looking at your gear it will suggest upgrades, enchants, etc. Its useful.
A destruction build is king right now for raiding but I would suggest you do a 0/41/30 felguard/ember spec pre-Naxx as it is powerful, easy rotation, and still allows you to drain tank for pve.
Assuming your can farm for gold (and you'll need some) buy some crafted gear off the AH to start. If you're not geared yet then concentrate on cloth with hit on it, it will have spellpower no doubt. Go to wintergrasp, start collecting stonekeeper shards for shoulder enchants and wg marks for head pieces. Go to Argent tourney and start building rep there for decent gear. As others have said, go to Icecrown and plow through quests. Knights of Ebon Blade rep was easy for me, get their tabard once you've opened up their quest line. They have a good blue cape that i actually havent replaced yet (egad!). Start doing dailies there for rep and gold.
With your tabard on hit up pug's (pickup groups) spamming general and trade chat for groups. If you win wg, stick around and try to get into VoA with a group.
Another hint if you don't already have it. Northrend is big. Flying is king, get your fast flyer its worth it, especially if you farm for something. |

| reply to captokita Just quickly. I wouldn't recommend a heavy destro build until you have some better gear.
An affliction or felguard/ember build is probably a better way into raiding.
Fallenman's post is excellent, however a little dated now. Go read our own warlock 3.1 class thread, there's heaps there for locks to check out. No pretense, maybe a little epeen stroking, but nothing like the official forums. |

| reply to captokita I agree with others, I recently started a guild on Malygos (Resolute) and our plan is to Raid 6pm-9pm CST 2 days a week. It can be done. People just need to study the fights. For that reason we will stick with 10 man raids.. If we get too big we'll do 2 10 man raids or 3, but avoid the logistics of dealing with 25 man raids. -- Play a Death Knight? www.theebonhold.com |

| reply to captokita sounds familiar to me. we now have that problem of 14-16 active raiders in our guild. too many for one 10 men and not enough for two 10 or one 25. and our experiences to fill a 25 with randoms have been a desater. (like most PuGs) but its pretty hard to recruit members as a casual guid with only two raiding evenings (6-10pm). |

| reply to Kilroy said by Kilroy :We clear Naxx in a little over four hours. So it is possible. I was re-reading these posts and this stuck out on me.
4 hours? Good grief! Those raids are really THAT long? (see? noob lol)
I get antsy doing the 1 hr dungeons because I've been in so many that after a wipe when you're 90% done and everyone gives up, and you just wasted an hour plus for NOTHING!!! I'd be right pissed if I was running something for near 4 hours and nothing came of it. |
|
  Bobafet
| reply to captokita 4 Hours is going at a pretty good clip and a well geared group, considering they can clear in 4 hours. It isn't very long, and you will get gear if you stay and clear the entire instance, you, being the first time raider will probly even end up with a few pieces of loot. |

join:2009-07-15 | reply to captokita 4 hours in naxx is a long time, but really all depends on the group or guild you are in.
Before Ulduar came out we as a guild was clearing naxx in 2 hours and i'm sure there are much faster guilds out there. |

| reply to captokita If you are in 4-hours and "nothing comes of it", then yeah that would suck. But even a very casual, inexperienced guild will probably knock out at least 8 or 9 bosses in 4 hours, which will provide lots of upgraded loot for fresh 80s. So chances are, even without a full clear, you would definitely get "something" out of a 4-hour raid to help progress your character.
Once Patch 3.2 hits, all bosses in raids and heroic dungeons up to and including Ulduar will be dropping Emblems of Conquest, which can be saved up to purchase some very nice gear. So even if the loot you need does not drop, it will be a step toward improving your character. |

Locks are pretty sick on the meters, my lock (deep destro) who is currently wearing a combination of crafted epics (ring and cloak), lvl 80 blues, and 70 epic(s) (Belt of Blasting FTW) just broke 4k dps on a VH boss (the dog) |
