swope1221 : Brian, thanks for that information. A couple of times I noticed my DVR's IP randomly changed, and that seemed to coincide with it not functioning. I got lucky a couple of times when I would unplug the STBs, factory reset the router, then plug the STBs back in. It would work for a couple of days, but then stop. I read on here about doing what you suggested, but never knew the exact steps. Thanks soooo much!!! I'm going to give it a try when I get home.

BTW, is call assistant working for you now?

brianmcd : There is a problem with the STB obtaining a different TCP/IP Address from your Router but NOT Updating the forwarding rule via UPNP properly. Easiest way to fix the problem is to give your STB a Static Address.

For the Actiontec:
Logon to Router
Select Advanced
Select IP Address Distribution
Select Connection List
Select the IP-STB to Change
Check Off the Static Lease Type

Once you have the DVR locked in you can disable and then re-enable the Remote DVR Feature from the menus which should update the forwarding rule on the router.

swope1221 : Thanks PJL. It's frustrating to say the least, the one time I'm actually away, and not sitting at home on my computer just playing with it, it won't work. Last week when it wouldn't work, I did all in my first post, and even tried a port forwarding rule as I saw here in some posts, and nada. Then all of the sudden later that day, it worked. Worked till 2 days ago, last time I checked, but today first day on vacation, nothing.

PJL :
said by swope1221 :

Hi. I know there are several threads here on the remote dvr feature, mine seems to work then not work for no apparent reason. Are there any methods anyone uses that seems to bring it back to working? I have cleared cookies, etc. from my browser, unplugged then replugged dvr, rebooted router, even factory defaulted router, and then tried the fios tv central website, but there seems to be no one method that works. Thanks for any ideas and suggestions.

I suspect the reason that no one method works to correct the problem is that the problem is on Verizon's web site itself, not on our side (the STBs, etc). Links between our accounts using "My Verizon" and the billing system often break, and I think this is what happens when the remote DVR function goes down. For several days last week the remote DVR function was down for us -- the site "couldn't find" our STB. But today it's working perfectly -- in fact it's faster than it's ever been. I did nothing to my STB, router, etc., but now it's working again. The Verizon web sites have been notorious for their problems.
