| Very Slow DSL Elite speeds in Galveston, TX
Have had a pretty stable DSL connection with about 4.8mbps in Galveston until about 4 days ago. Testing on any of the AT&T speed tests shows 1.3mbps and 600ish kbps. Using the speedtests on dslreports, both java and flash, from new york to california to new jersey, gives me varying speeds but they are all under 1.2mbps and most of the time it shows up 200-300kbps for the downspeed. The up speed is always 600ish kbps. Streaming youtube clips can become a pain where half the time I'm watching that little circle thing spinning. I watch the lowest quality ones too and I think those have a bitrate of only 300 kbps.
I just chatted with tech support and created a trouble ticket and they will test my line in 1-24 hours and call me back. I had thought it was because of the rain because sometimes when it rains the speed gets all wonky and the phone line has a lot of static. But it hadn't rained and my phone line is very clean sounding when I call someone.
I am also using a non-AT&T dsl modem/router but it's been fine for a couple of months and I don't think it's the problem. My upstream is constantly good but downstream is terrible. Modem/router is a D-Link DSL-2640B with European firmware. |

| Hello. I am replying to my post because I have resolved the issue. Apparently they had my connection capped or something on the AT&T router side and all it took was an instant message by the tech support guy to get them to release it. I don't know why it was capped but after rebooting my router, the speed shot back up to 4.8mbps. If you don't believe that it is a problem on your side (like how I didn't) then that would be something to ask them about, if it wasn't a retarded technical problem on their sytem. |
