Is 3-4 ms of extra latency something to worry about?

In the past, I had 3 devices (sometimes more) connected to a single wireless client device (ZyXEL P-330w), no routing abilities; in switch mode. I've heard that this can cause all kinds of problems depending on what's being networked and such with the MAC address being rewritten at the wireless client box (and eventually some of my devices could not obtain an IP through DHCP.). To alleviate this problem, I connected a Netgear mr814v2 wireless router to the wireless client box and connected the rest of my devices through the lan ports and/or the mr814v2's wireless (ch.6)

The wireless client box is connected to my friends router, who is signed up for a business internet package, so sharing is legal. His router operates on ch. 1.

Back on the subject of the netgear, it seems to add 3-4 ms of extra latency (Tested through one of the netgear's lan ports). Its IP is DMZ enabled at my friend's router, so I shouldn't have to worry about double-NAT issues (I hope.) Is 3-4 ms of extra latency something to worry about? This causes my pings to my friend's router to increase from 2-4 ms to 7-9 ms. I also have a DI-604 D-link router and an old Linksys Cable/DSL router (Both non-wireless) I can use if that helps.

Should I be worried about this extra latency at all?

In a word, no.

Good call, hahah. I ended up switching out the Netgear with the D-link router and my speeds were actually cut in half.. but my pings were 3-4 ms less too. Pretty weird. I put the netgear back in place though. I just remembered my old linksys router needed to be rebooted every other week or so... I'm not using that one.

No.

But latency to what host? Your own LAN? Some internet host? If the latter, the latency will be highly variable according to time of day, etc.
If via WiFi, latency will go up if you and a neighbor are both active on the same channel, plus or minus 3 channels.

But 3-4 mSec across the Internet is a small percentage.
