[Availability] att dsl denied me service

Strangest thing i've heard, please tell me if someones heard of this in the past.
I have had phone/dsl for the past few years, i recently moved and after about 2 weeks and 20 phone calls later i had my phone line working. but its been almost 3 weeks and no luck with the dsl.
just hung up the phone with them for the third time today and of course they had me running in circles once again trying to figure why my service isnt up yet.
here is the strange part, they told me that dsl service isnt available on my block because they are all sold out!!! meaning there isnt any more slots available for me! and thats why they had me going in circles for 3 weeks because they didnt want to tell me that!
they ended off with "go find another service"!
am i missing something here?!?!?!?!?

Sounds like your local DSL service is via a Remote Terminal (RT). Those things have a fixed capacity, only so many customers per RT. You aren't going to find another DSL provider since they likely use the same equipment so your choices are a) wait and hope someone moves and disconnects DSL service or b) sign up with whoever your local cable provider is for their broadband service.

It's common, they do have a "wait list" but I doubt they actually will contact people off of it. On their site if you punch in your number and it says it's not available but they can contact you when it is - I punched in mine but I Was never contacted.

AT&T would not give me DSL until I talked to the tech at my CO and he called his supervisor. Even then AT&T said I had something on my line preventing me from getting it. Told them to just put the order through and I'll take responsibility if it doesn't work - the order went through. The DSL works great and that is what I am typing this message on now. Must be magic or something because I'm using DSL that AT&T told me I couldn't get .

Short story: Talk to the techs at your CO, be nice, explain your situation and ask if DSL is available in the CO. They should be able to tell you information that the clueless overseas AT&T CSRs can't.
