Zac posted : I've been with Hostgator for over a couple years now, and there was an incident awhile back, where somehow a mass-mailer php script got on one of my lesser-used domains, so I didn't catch it. Though shortly after noticing my e-mail stopped receiving, I got a phonecall from hostgator, telling me that there was a script on my site that was causing a disturbance.

I called them back, and the nice tech helped me find the script that was doing the mass-mailing. I promptly removed it, considering he said it had done over 20,000 e-mails in the past couple hours or something along those lines (It might not have been that high, but I can't remember.)

I later modified the script to simply write everything that was sent out to a txt file along with the posters IP address (Disabled the actual mail() function, so to the end user it seemed like it was still spitting out e-mails), then put it back online. Within 2 days I got about 100 IP addresses that were trying to use it, I banned them from all my websites using htaccess, along with from my own personal server as to never have to deal with them again. I've seen them trying to access occasionally, so they are stupid enough to keep using their same IP's. ;)

Anyway, I enjoy Hostgator for my current needs. And anything heavy I program in PHP, I simply run on my own server at home.
--
~There is no Normal or Abnormal...
